in this day and age where it is getting less safe for children to play even in their own neighbourhoods i think this could be a good idea

IF the child is reasonably responsible and level headed and understands how to control the dog properly.

As the mother of a 5yr old daughter, the the thought has already crossed my mind, when i was a teenager we would be out ALL day on our pushbikes, horse riding or just walking about with the dogs, i really don't think i will allow her to do that when she is a (young) teenager, which is very very sad, however, i think if i could afford a professionally trained GSD to be by her side i would do it, i don't mean a dog to attack on her command, i mean a well bred, well balanced dog that would have a bloody good go if it needed to and be a deterrent for any dirty :censored: that happen to be lurking about

You'd have to have it spot on and trust it with your life.......probably bite a mugger and you still end up in jail. Not worth the hassle in this country i'm afraid.

worst case scenario; what if it was a paedophile trying to snatch a kid? you cant keep kids locked in the house or holding your hand 24/7 id rather they would have a good well trained family protection dog as a deterrent at the very least than a missing kid.

if a protection dog bit a registered sex offender trying to snatch a kid, i dont think it would be reported to the police by the sex offender even if it was reported by the family of the child.

True and that by the public would be looked as a result but unfortunately with our shit laws and poofy goverment theres a chance that if it bit someone lets say breaking into your home....1 the dog could be put down and 2 you could be charged!! Wrong i know but the legal system is a joke.... :wallbash:

When i was 12-13 me and my friend would tack the horses up at about 6.30am, we would be out for hours, usually until well past lunchtime (my idea of the perfect childhood) we often had her GSD with us when we took the horses out, othertimes we would have my dads Lurcher with us and would pushbike all over the place with him (i'm talking rural countryside, woodland etc) so it is no different really, either one of those dogs could have attacked if they felt the need, like i said, im not talking a fully trained attack dog, im talking about a well trained dog that will make most people think twice about approaching her, if some dirty old git decides to try his luck, id be happy that she had a dog by her side

That use to be the case hear but laws have changed recently , also if you put up a beware of dog sign and it bites someone on your property youll get done even more because you acknowledged having a danderous dog , absolutely crazy imo, If anyone is thinking of getting a protection dog go for a bitch even when not trained they have a much higher personal protection sense because of there maternal instinct

The video doesn't prove a thing really.

You have a young child that was shown many a time how to walk a trained dog to heel, and to drop the dog on command.

Also look at the way the dog quickly registers the person walking over to him and the child, then half heartedly runs over for the arm lock, or shall I say the father shoves it in the dogs mouth.

A trained protection dog is totally trained in a one to one basis. Owner/Trainer and dog, and not roaming around off the lead. Anyone can have a family guard dog, that's what that dog is.

By putting two signs front and back of your property may save your bacon if the worse was to happen. Just remember, anybody can take anyone to court. You do not need the police involved to do this.
