zini 1,939
Hi Ste, Yep the .177 Ultra is very good at night when using NV gear. Range finding errors are easier to get over and the calibre is more forgiving, and it’s just tonnes easier than with a .22 calibre to shoot accurately when it’s dark. The .177 Ultra is still going though buddy on the 22nd Jan as I’m swapping it for a Tench tuned and regged .22 action that as just been for a visit to Tench 2 weeks ago to get fixed and re tuned etc. This one is a multishot though so I’m very happy with it. I’m keeping everything including my stock and getting a .22 action instead to fit into my stock. I’m a .22 man through and through buddy and like the challenge of hitting something hard and humanely at long range with a .22. Hi Davy it’s looking sweet for Friday night buddy as I have Sat off so we can do a all nighter from say 2300 hrs till 4 or 5 AM if you wish On Friday mate I will take the camera and tripod and film you taking the shot with your red lamp buddy, that way you wont be weighed down with equipment leaving you too take more shots and I will get the footage that I need. Hi Darryl, Yep shame you’re so far a way mate it could be like old times again. I’m over till the 13th Feb mate. Hi Tony, If Laura gets to go into camp she could pick it up for me buddy. zini 1,939
Hi John, Yep back to the good old .22 mate, what i was brought up with and know and shoot better. The .177 is deadly on bunnies and the Magnums stop them dead in there tracks. I suspect a softer pellet would be even better with better energy transfer but the Ultra is so accurate with them that i just shoot for the KZ everytime and you know as i do buddy a pellet to any of the quarry species KZ kills them within 2 to 3 metres max. On bunnies its usually where they stand. I have seen a good side to the .177 mate and see why so many use it for HFT etc. If i ever start HFT i will defo get a .177 again from Tench. I have been using my laser again this past couple of nights and brushing up on my range estimation lasing and its been working really well. If i stick the laser on the .22 and use it at night i wont have any problems in lamping im sure. Si Quote Link to post
