Hi all ,the names brad im 15 and had my air arms s410 carbine for about 2-3 years,i had it brand new but then sort of lost the interest in hunting but for the price i payed i kept it ,and im glad i did.i joined this site a while ago and was a regular user but then got more and more into my bikes and cars ,but anyways now im back ,and once again have the urge to hunt after shooting a rat this week.

as i said i have an air arms s410 carbine ,walnut stock, silencer and hawke 3-9x40 scope. Now im looking into gun lamps as most of my shooting will be at night ,i looked into lamps a good while back when i was shooting alot and i think i was going to get the deben tracer.

anyways times have changed and i want to know what available and what you would reccomend.

i really dont want to be drilling the stock so a scope mounted one would be preferable.

so far ive seen this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Deben-Tracer-Mini-12V-250m-Gun-Lamp-Kit-FREE-FILTER-/280459966526?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item414cb7783e .

anygood ? i didnt really want to be spending that much but o well i may as well get one thats worth it instead of some cheap junk .

anywho any suggestions and advice are welcome and greatly appreciated :)

Hey mate, thats a quality bit of kit in my opinion, make sure you get a red filter with it also ;), you can get tactical cree lamps also witch are great, I use one sometimes when I cant be botherd to lump the battery around for the mini, also I think its great that you are called lamperboy and are one of a few people without a lamp :) I hope you appriciate the irony.

Anyway buddy welcome back and with one of those you wont go wrong ;)

Thank you for the reply mate , how does the cree kit perform ? how long does the charge last and is it good quality ? whats the pros and cons to it ?

i may get that for now and if i stick to it ,upgrade to a better lamp at a later date :).

btw lol i used to do alot of lamping having 2 lurchers but i dont really get up to it that much these days still got one lurcher bitch beddlington-greyhound-saluki ,still got the gear tho :)

btw how heavy does the whole setup feel and do you have to carry the battery seperate on the deben.

also what models are available ? i would love one that came with a dimmer switch as ive heared you get even better results with a dimmed lamp and no red filter ? true -or bull ? lol

ive also spotted this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Deben-Tracer-Atom-Tactical-6V-100m-Gun-Lamp-FREE-FILTER-/250573866710?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item3a575dc6d6

and i like the idea of a battery on the stock ,but for a tenner is it worth getting the other model ? all help is well appreciated pal

Yes mate get the mini for the extra tenner the mini is 250m the other is 100m (it never seems like that in the field but it tells you that one has twice the power than the other) my money went on the mini ;) mine is 12v also.

Dont disregard the cree lamps if your on a budget they are very good value, dont wory about life both outlast me on a nite out the mini is rechargable by a mains plug, the cree you can buy rechargables for, store your batteries fully charged this prolonges there life also they are always ready when you need them.

Actualy mate I read that back and im definaly biest towards my lamp it may be worth reading reviews on the other to see, as I have not used one so can not realy disregard it.

well bikes and cars are my life so my money has always gone on those haha ive been building a (dont laugh) scooter for the past 9 months and its not far from running ,i know your not interested but it isnt your average scooter and will give a focus st a run for its money 0-60 wise.

anyway i have 190 and also have a saturday job as a panel beater /sprayer so thats 20 quid for 4 hours work :p im thinking of just ordering the 12v mini now as i dont want to spend 30 odd 40 quid and end up buying another down the line ,id rather just get the propper job straight away ,not disregarding the cree but the mini seems alot better imho ,so i think its the one ill go for lol

i went out tonight for a few hours with my mate ,we met at about 9:15 and was out till just gone 10, didnt really have high expectations,it was mroe of a mooch and to see whats about these days more than anything and i was quite surprised. I had my lamp that i use for the dogs and he took his bsa supersport and we seen atleast 8 bunnys but all out of range and it didnt make it any easyer that the gun and lamp were in seperate hands ,will be ideal if i get the mini as hes buying one basically brand new in the week for 35 quid and when we both have them , we can spend a good night out :) oh btw i also have some permission on a farm my mum used to keep her horses but it was about 3 years ago . so im going to have a word with the farmer and see if i can have a play up there :) and hopefully bag some quarry ,thanks for all your help mate ,ill get back to you on what decision ive made :)

Have you considered a good head torch?

I use a Led Lenser with a 150 lumens bulb and a red filter modded from a mates, don't know the make. It has an adjustable beam and power and it lasts me for an all night sesh or two on a set of batteries, the only down side for me is that rechargeable ones don't last very long so it's a case of 3 good AAA's every other trip out.

I've never been a fan of gun mounted lamps, mainly 'cos I use springers but also I can't be doing with wires and sh*t hanging off my rifle.

Cheers.

hmm im not sure atm i for some reason dont fancy a head torch :/ i want the mini 12v but then im not sure about wires hanging off my rifle either :/ plus i just feel that the 12v is gonna be heavy for some reason ,not sure atm kind of confused i may sleep on it or order tonight haha

thats promising :) i have my eye on a deben tracer atom pro 12v 100m beam on ebay atm it only needs a buld and mount so if i can pick it up cheap enough i think its worth a shot as i really cant see me shooting anything over 100m atm anyway , i would buy brand new but if im being realistic here . i really need to get this bike up and running and near finished before i start spending chunks of cash on other hobbies :)

so all being well i can get this one from ebay and have a crack with that , are they anygood in your experience -knowledge ?

thanks for all your help :)

Hi Mate,

I use both a Deben Tracer Max Pro and a Cree with a red LED.

If you use a Deben then use a dimmer switch as well for great results as the lower the light the better it is.

Mine is now used in conjunction with my IR and NV setup.

For shooting alone you can’t beat a Cree in my opinion, lighter than the Deben lasts forever if used in conjunction with a spotting lamp.

The red LED is fantastic and the bunnies are not frightened by the light.

Si
