Nik_B 3,790
I am going to phone a guy who has a small syndicate. I'm not after big bag days, just a few nice days out plus the vermin rights on some farm land so I have somewhere to go shooting out of season. So before I phone him up what questions would you be asking? I know it will be rough/walked up days of small bags, and I know the kind of vermin rights given, I also know the land isnt passed for FACs so it's just going to be the shotgun and air rifle. They do work parties that aren't compusory but I recon that would be fun every now and then and I'd like to learn a little about keepering. At the mo I can just think of a couple the first being how many acres and the second whether it would be ok to bring a friend/dog when shooting vermin although I would imagine they might say no at having a freind. Cheers in advance
North Country Boy 0
Id ask the usual questions, how many birds do they put down, how many days do they shoot, how much land they shoot over, is it keepered, try and ascertain who uses the land and for what, ive been part of a syndicate for years and the last 2 seasons weve had loads of birds nicked, the landowner lets every pigeon shooter and his dog on it. Work days are great and will show the shoot that your not just there to shoot but care about how its run, vermin days are some of the best days shooting to be had in my opinion, a lot less formal and a good chance to catch up with your fellow guns outside of the season, there are guns in our syndicate who only see each other during the shoot season, sad really. Nik_B 3,790
Thanks mate that was really helpful I'm looking for good days out, whether shooting, pest control, learning about how to look after the pheasants, and getting my dog some experience in the field. It's a cheap syndicate so I'm not going to expect much....but a day out is a day out!
North Country Boy 0
....but a day out is a day out! And with attitude mate, you wont go far wrong, we pay £550 to shoot 10 days a season sometimes 12 if theres still plenty of birds about, there are guns that will moan when they dont shoot anything but thats shooting, i treat everyday i go out, wether it be shooting or beating, with respect, there are blokes that can earn a million quid by dinner time but they wont be as happy as me when im out working my dog or taking a 35yard pheasant. Its the other things you see when you are out too, roe deer bolting from a wood your beating through, hares running past you on a walk one stand one shoot, crafty foxs, these are the things that make being out in the country fantastic.
