Shazza 52
Have the dog on a long line and keep it's attention whilst around livestock, if the dog shows an interest in the sheep he has hold of the line and can give a sharp correction. You must also praise the dog for coming away or ignoring the sheep.
Wxm 1,638
best advice would be not to slap it .. next time it grabs livestock and you get anywhere near it its gona bolt and you'll have lost a dog. i've never had a probllem with stock training but it has to start when the pups ready to go out after its jabs .. the more they see them the more they get used to them. good lenght lead or a horse lead and walking the feild with the dog on the lead and give it a bit of slack and soon as it runs for it just dont let it have any more lead so it cant run to them if you know what i mean. bird 9,913
9 months ? mine see stock lot younger bud sooner they see them the better, a.t.b sfa yep , what i do i try and get dog the (oblivious) not botherd to sheep. I let them look at the sheep, and walk round with them on the lead. Then i do the same with out the lead, some sheep can be a bit nervy and run a bit. But that is better still as the dog ,because run or walk it should still not bother him or her. But still take my dogs to see sheep every other day, never trust (any) dog 100%, it still only a dog. Ideation 8,216
On a lead round and round and through and past and near sheep - starting with 300 and working down to one, and everytime the dog even looks at them funny correct him (not a slap just a tap and a 'no') - do this every day for sometime and gradually use a longer and longer lead.
