J Darcy 5,871
We reblued the 77 and added a gold trigger. Fitted a Vmach spring and piston head. shoots smooth, but i have had quieter guns. Thrown on some simmons whitetail scopes and im ready to roll. Bisley Long Range Gold were the pellet and first shot a woodie fell as if poleaxed. I quickly realised the trigger was too light, but i had no allen key with me so it was a case of making do. Shot 4 woodies in total and the dog did some brilliant retreives. last woodie of the night was obviously hit hard and yet tried to flap away but i could see from the trajectory that it was going to come down with a thud. Lurcher was cock on with his finding and a great retrieve to hand from him. I have to get a sling sorted, a new custom stock and adjust the trigger. otherwise, yes sir, the 77 is back! Guest rexdigger
had a 77 as my first proper airgun built like a tank and could knock em down lost count of the pests it dispatched over the years them were the days Quote Link to post

jazmin 44
Did the gold trigger take much fitting ,my mate has a old 77 which has a small piece broken off and needs a bit of tlc.Bagged loads with my old 77k there great guns that just last forever.I may even offer to buy my mates as a project job as i would love another.(have you seen the air gunner mag this month theres a neat diy comb raising feature) kit costs £20 do a restain of your choice maybe cheaper way of getting a custom stock with the great feeling of knowing you done it yourself Quote Link to post
tiny tim 22
ahhhh the old 77 ..what a gun ,bit heavy but accurate as hell.....one of my regrets is selling mine to get an aas200....one day i will invest in another Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Great read JD. An HW77 and a Simmons Whitetail scope. That's just classical spring rifle hunting. Got the same set up with my .22 HW77 mounted with a Simmons Whitetail Clasic Supernightview 4-14X40 AO scope. At my 25 metre hunting zero, it doesn't get more accurate than that. Nice one! Guest rexdigger
All the better for digging with mr darcy and good to bump into you also ;-) Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Just to add as a suggestion for a sling. I have a lovely padded leather sling made for/by Bisley on all my rifles. They cost a bit but, worth every penny carrying a hefty rifle on your shoulder securely. Simon Quote Link to post

Simon I can see that springers will have a revival before long. The PCP market seems to be getting rather stale and benign. Wheres the character of guns these days? Don't get me wrong, i like my PCP, but theres something personal about my heavy 'ol 77.There will be more stories to follow as well as the evolution of the gun from a rusty scrap to a smart, dazzling tack-shooting, lethal piece of kit....
