stoaty 171
Broken ribs ouch!!! I remember taking the terrier ratting to an old battery hen house with a lad called Daryl from Abergavenny (few of you on here prob know him )Opened the doors put on the lights rats everywhere terriers and lurchers snatching them from under our feet .Clever twat here tried to stamp on a huge rat not realising where the cages had been moved there was chipboard they lifted to get rid of the shit.Result me falling 10 foot onto a concrete wall supporting the legs of the building breaking my ribs and landing in stinking chicken shit and rotten eggs the same time .every breath I took killed and the smell mad me puke with it not one of my happier memories and to top it off Daryl wanted a rabbit before we went home so off roaded it in his mini screaming in pain with the windows wide open to try and stop melting our nasal hair on a winters night is somthing I'd rather forget lol Stoaty

gnasher16 30,024
Just a little word of advice Jasp.....its important to keep the lungs healthy when you break ribs....it probably hurts when you take in a deep breath....but you MUST make sure you do take them regardless of the pain....if you dont take those big deep breaths occasionally it can lead to a build up of mucous and moisture on the lungs, which can then lead to pneumonia ! I know its tempting to try not to but make sure you do Incidentally....up till about 20 years ago they did wrap the ribs they would use what was called a rib belt that went right around the chest..... Brings back many painful memories mate i wish you a speedy recovery Edited January 15, 2011 by gnasher16

gnasher16 30,024
why did they stop it mate???? For strapping to be any benefit it needs to be tight.....and being tight around the chest restricts breathing meaning its harder to take those deep breaths in i was on about. That's what they did to me when I broke them as a lad. It feckin' hurt, I remember that much but at least I was lucky 'cos it wasn't bad breaks either time and they healed fast. runforyourlife 361
imo its the worst thing/s to break nothing but weeks of pain and just a f*****g nuisance in general :censored: :censored: No Stewie, i'll tell a worse one, your sternum!! Think thats how you spell it...(chest bone) Took a steelie there once from a flying kick(westham fan) felt like he had caved all my body in, the preasure to breath was quite frightening. Had to lie still for quite a while. Still felt it 18 mths later... Its something i wouldnt advise trying, lol...

I think you're right mate Must admit Runforyoyourlife I came out of it quite lightly when you see the path! its full of rocks and flint stone sticking up all over the place. thankfully when I landed I went down on a bit that didn't seem so bad. got to say never had pain like it! lifted myself up on all fours but couldn't breath properly and just felt this crushing pain across the chest and ribs. I can't run very fast at my age but that snare certainly threw me down pretty hard. for a few weeks across my sternum and chest was more bruised and painfull than my ribs! couldn't even touch my sternum it was so painful! if it wasn't for strong painkillers It would have done my head in. cheers again for the replies all ! seems like breaking ribs is a common one... trooperman 73
Doctors also discovered that wraping you up with broken ribs did not allow them to heal in the correct position so they stoped wraping and just siad be careful,,,,the worst pain with a rip complaint is when the wife jumps ontop to help her self,,,when she gets rocking and rolling it is agony. paul

I pulled a rib from a socket a few years back helping some carpenters lift a staircase into position. I couldn't move for the fecking pain for a good few days. Even now it flares up now and again... Co Codamol 30/500's were the only thing that eased the pain off a bit..
