Not as good as some of you guys

Recommended Posts

As some of you know i have only just got back into shooting after a long break....(bout 6 months) i have been trying my shooting skills on targets and decided to push my boundrys tonight at 45yds (i had my doubts)...mesured with my old carpet fitting tape which mesures in yds.....i decided my target was to be the base of a larger can.......at first i missed but a good inch till i realised i was zero'ed at 20 yds DOH!.......this also is my first time using my mildots on the scope.and after a little practise(10 mins) it was just on the first mildot.......then the wind picked up which sucks but this is my result i want to here from experianced shooters what they think of my grouping at 45 yds with a gusting wind.......im not to impressed but its a small target at that distance..........pointers would be appriciated...

10 shots in total a few went through holes already made by previous shots

Hi Steve,

If that is 10 shots at 45 yards in a gusty wind as you say then I would say that you have done a very good group there buddy.

The base of a can is around 70 mm and looking at your results you are under half that discounting the 1 or 2 fliers in the top.

So a 30 mm group in gusty conditions at 45 yards is bloody good going mate.

You now re-shoot that on a still day and your group will seriously shrink.

Hi Steve mate.

As Si has pointed out, about shooting in a gusty wind, you've done a lot better than you might give yourself credit for here mate. Ideally, you really need to practice shooting at long range targets, in calm, still air conditions to be able to accurately assess your hold technique for your TX200 and shot consistencies with it. If the wind is blowing hard around my permission, I know any rabbits will be out against the lee of risen ground close to the warrens as it gives them a natural windbreak and allows them to still be able to hear and smell their enemies as they feed. For me, it means a shorter range zero, even with FAC air rifle or rimfire.

But, that you have been able to hit this 45 yard tin target with reasonable accuracy at all, says a lot for your skills and, a darn good rifle worthy of em!

Top shooting mate

Hey stevo where you shoot that group? if that was in your garden I am jelous, I have to lie down by the front door and shoot through the hall and living room out the patio doors (was going to say through patio doors but sounds like I dont bother to open them :)) and to my back fence for my 20yrd range complete with backstop, obviously when im at home alone, on the plus side the neighbours know nothing about it lol
