HunterBoyTellEm 0
I fish commercially for a living and it would be good if this national disgrace did recieve more attention. Any system that forces the discarding of dead fish will never work and is totally unsuitable in a mixed fishery, nothing and nobody benefits from this travesty, The fact that this happens at sea and is pretty much invisible is the only reason it continues, imagine a similair scheme on land, rotting corpses strewn about, there would be uproar. My boat is equipped for all types of static/passive fishing but nowadays we really only pot for shellfish as we are never given any quota for anything else and even when we were encouraged to rig for mackerel lining ,which we did at considerable expense, the quota of 300kg a month wasnt viable. The only reason that shellfishing has remained viable is that we,the fisherman, have been instrumental in several sensible conservation measures,ie,pot number limitation and voluntary marking and releasing of pregnant females. Left in the hands of cluieless scientists, the corrupt EEC and our uninterested gvernment the uk industry is doomed. well you and the rest of lads still fishing around the UK have my full support anyway, and as many people as i can pull onto this. KEEP FISH FIGHTING! Quote Link to post

Plong 21
It's ok signing up but what is he pushing for? An end to dumping will just put the cod under more pressure. Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
According to the fishermen on the programme and what we've seen with our own two eyes the cod is not under the pressure we're led to believe. Quote Link to post
