rossy08 33
As some of you may no i got a new gun yesterday and this letter was in it. The "Crime and Security Act 2010 (c.17) states that "It is an offence for a person in possession of an air weapon to fail to take responasble percautions to pervent any person under the age of 18 from having the weapon with them" To this end we have supplied a kit that includes a lock and eyelets to secure this air weapon when not in use. Now air arms are perviding locks but it is not down to the supplier to do this, its down to the owner of said weapon. was news to me, thought id share it with you incase any of you were not awear of this new law. and i hade to spend the afternoon down b&q buying bits and bobs to secure my guns. hope this helps some of you. but out of interest how many of your were awear of this? atb Andy Quote Link to post
markha 99
I was aware of the law on under 18's and air weapons etc as there has been much about it in the press. What I am surprised at is Air Arms putting a token fixing kit in with its guns, Someone somewhere has applied some pressure Quote Link to post
rossi_j 99
I was not aware of that, however I have precautions already to stop little inquisitive people getting at them, it is the law (news to me), I was already doing this, I call it common sense when kids are around .atb. .ste. Marksman 934
all my rifles are stored in a gun cabinet whilst I'm away. MIght seem a bit OTT and I know theyre only air rifles and my kids know NEVER to touch them but I'd never forgive myself if anything untoward happened Prevention is better than a cure as they say! hunter1989 91
hi lads i keep mine in my wardrobe so my Lil hunter don't get his hands on them as i would have hold everywhere the laws getting harder for us due to poeple using air rifles as weopons and i dont think its fair on the likes of us all who take care and respect the shooting life. atb steve Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
Oh good, yet another unfathomable layer of bureacratic BS to get our heads around! Seriously, the Firearms Act (1968) has been amended so many times, it's like the roadsweepers broom! It's had 43 new heads and 28 new handles, but it's still the original broom! I mean really, go and read the relevant law. I seem to remember the original act has been amended by about 30 different acts. It's amazing any of us can touch a gun without inadvertently committing an offence. Now, the law about minors and air guns. A minor between the age of 14 and 17 can have with them, unsupervised, on land which they have permission to shoot, an air rifle and ammunition for that air rifle. Of course they can't purchase the rifle or ammunition, and they can't be given an air rifle now (that would be my understanding of this new law, that allowing anyone under 18 free access to an air rifle is an offence, even if it is in a place they can legally use it) Total and utter BS! Of course, responsible shooters will take precautions to protect ANY weapon from unauthorised use. But to couch it in so much legalese that it's virtually impossible to comprehend, how does that actually help anyone? What gets me is that at the age of 14, I was capable of handling safely and responsibly all sorts of firearms. I fired my first live rifle when I was 5 (a .22 rimmy) and my first cf when I was about 8. I had free access to air rifles from the age of about 6, and knew what I was allowed to do with them and what I wasn't. This is my argument for all schools having a range and a few rifles, so that they can teach the children about guns, and gun safety, rom an early age. Only by understanding and respecting guns will we get past the stupidity of people who think that air weapons are toys! Sorry, rant over! Thanks for bringing it to our attention rossy. I'm mired under a pile of regulations and laws at the moment, like trying to wade through treacle, with the setup of the rifle range! Had just about enough of trying to decipher circular references in legal documents, does your head in! Quote Link to post
