lakeman 12
yes lets see it. We all know that it is mostly showmen who keep these lines, and before you start my old man has had Ward/Middleton lines for yrs, and he is first to say that there is better working lines out there. He has had one or two not bad terriers on fox but no great digging ones from his Lakies, though they are of the type he likes, and he has tried to improve them work wise, is that not what its all about..(he also keeps a couple of pats as well wich he rates as better workers) dogs of 20 yrs ago Lakeman,, if you dont think it maters why post to another member on here that you will send him the breeding judges at most shows now are the pigeon holed type, as they feel they have to pick terriers of the same standard ie, the russel looks like the Lakie, the Lakie looks like the black, the black looks like the red , and so on. I always thought judging was, and should be about picking a dog that you the judge would like to dig to regardless of whether it has a box head, straight/narrow front as well as a wire jacket ect. What has happened to individuality, and freedom of choice. afternoon shane....welcome aboard. the reason for the lad asking how the dog is bred is i am on my 5th generation of dogs, that's in resent times.. not 20 years ago, and he would like to know his dogs background.. also i judge. and i judge dogs for 'individual' breeds.. ie a lakie is a lakie, a russell is a russell, a fell type ( not a staffadale) and a patterdale is a patterdale...white lakie i judge a dog by my standards, and that is...'' a dog i would like to have in my kennel'' regardless of 'type' but at the end of the day... a good dog can't be a bad colour Quote Link to post

lakeman 12
as long as they do what i want, when i want... i see NO reason to breed from a dog of 2 1/2 or 3. the best bitch i ever had died at 7 and i only bred of her once. if you have a dog showing great promise, why not ??? someone said ''........test your dog 'till it fails...'' if the dog fails does that mean not to breed from it or just that it has been pushed too far???? lakeman 12
shane.. another question springs to mind.... would you consider your old man as a good terrier man? and, if so, why would he keep a line he is dissatisfied with??? Quote Link to post
Guest SPIFF
NEVER HEARD SO MUCH TALK ABOUT DOGS SPEWING. WHEN A TERRIERMANS DOGS ARE SPEWING ON A REGULAR BASIS HE S EITHER 1.WORKING WITH THE WRONG DOGS. OR 2.WORKING THE RIGHT DOGS WRONG. Quote Link to post
cumbye 36
line breeding is ok so long as you know what is in the breeding of the opposite line. if you put a cracking bitch worker to say a noted producing stud but their is a load of rubbish in the bitches breeding as well, the chanes are very strong that somewhere down the line the shite will start surfacing even though you are breeding away from the bitches line and line breeding to the stud.that is when people start calling that the noted stud is producing shite but it is the genes that have been locked away surfacing give a chance in any breeding.thats why some terrier men turn away any or all bitches that come from outside thier circle of breeding.it lessons doubts and stops crabbing of the dog they are happy with.there,s an old saying that comes from cockfighting its better to breed from a poor bird of good breeding that breed from a good bird of bad breeding. the bad blood will ruin your line somewhere down the line...hear endth the lesson. Wise words indeed!!!!!! Quote Link to post
barolo 4
I wouln't take the chance of running on pups from Middleton or Ward lines as i have never seen a good one. T bags lives near me, and use to win all the shows around here but most knew he was not a digging man. An old friend of mines son once owned the red T bag bred dog Des M from Ireland won a lot of shows with, and it was no good when he had it, so no wonder a lot of these dogs are spewing.
