LURCHER BOY 0
On 13/01/2011 at 19:50, stevethefish said: Stevo, Ray and Danny came down again for another bash on Nelstrops farm where we left off last week. We set off thinking the weather would be wet as it piss+d it down all night here, but how wrong we were. The weather turned for the better and it was almost spring like with the temperatures soaring and clear skies, bit different from the sub zero temp that we have been experiencing recently. We didn't have Tilly the dog with us this time as she decided to have her pups a week early, I think she is trying to get it over with so she can get back out with us, she was gutted when Stevo brought the JRT instead. The hedgerow we left off at the last time was producing ok so we decided to start there and it was good sport from the off. As usual we all had a guess at the bag total, this time I opted for 32, it seems like an average bag for this farm, Stevo went for a steady 30. It was a pleasure ferreting in these conditions, we even took of a couple of layers after the first hour since we were sweating rushing about after the bolting bunnies, well most of us anyhow. It was great to see the bunnies bolting well too, we have had some digs on here I can tell you and hard digs at that. We had a back up plan this time, a stop net was places strategically about 20 metres either side just in case, this hedgerow throws up some invisible bolters covered with twigs and leaves. As it happened it was a well thought out plan as it put an extra 4 in the bag, well worth the effort even though we dont usually use them. As we got further down Robert the landowner popped over to see how we were doing, I think he was impressed as we had taken quite a few off here over the last few visits, probably equivalent to about 3 sheep grazing. As we got towards the end of the session we were gutted as we were leaving some well used sets, these would do for the next visit though and hopefully supply some breeders for the sets we had done for next season We tallied the scores and believe it or not I was on the ball again guessing the right amount, so get those numbers wrote down for the lottery off my last post. 32, another decent days ferreting and smiles all around as you can see on the final pic. Ray AKA (Boris.... the I'll give it a miss this time) The collars come off, good ferrets worth their weight in gold. 31 with another one in the terriers cage, his treat for the work done GOOD ONE MATE Quote Link to post

stevethefish 80
Its good around here I must admit, it pays to be in with the local gamekeepers though, one has sorted us some more for tomorrow but with it being close to the maize strip there's plenty of long tailed ones about so I will be taking my patterdales. They are keen as mustard but they are a handfull when ferreting, I will have to keep them tethered up most of the time. I will put up a post tomorrow with the results. Quote Link to post
