green parakeets

Recommended Posts

They originally come from North Africa across to China. Some were noted in 1855 in Norfolk but even up until the mid 1970's there were only small numbers outside the London area and East Kent. Nowadays they are making progress by the year and I've seen the things coming to a bird table on the West Sussex/Surrey border. According to "The Naturalised Animals of Britain"( I think that's the book . I've lent it out so I'm on me doddery old memory here :whistling: ) one theory is that because they were so tough ,pretty and very cheap they were imported as pets and aviary birds in massive numbers .

From my own observations they are real bullies and are quite up to comandeering the most decent nesting holes .Which is not surpring because apart from a nifty tool in the form of a beak like a pair of secatuers it is actually quite a lot bigger than most garden birds .

Right so we would be better off without ALL non native wildlife would we? Think before you speak. Some of us quite like having - fallow deer, muntjac deer, Chinese water deer, Sika deer, Rabbit, Hare,

working in borehamwood today and there was green parakeets flying over all day thay had a nest in one of the gardens they was adding more sticks to it. the man in the house said there always there.

ring necked parakeets are on the list this year so you CAN shoot them!

Well i think they look real nice! would like to see them round here

Whilst looking pretty and exotic they are becoming a bit of a pest and a danger to native wildlife as they evict native birds from their tree holes and deny them of nesting sites.

The parakeets are known to harass woodpeckers (and other birds which nest in old woodpecker holes such as Starlings)and chase them from newly excavated holes which they then use to nest in themselves.

They also compete with native wildlife for food and dominate many garden bird tables and bird feeders.

WOODPECKERS ARE ONE OF THE WORST FOR KILLING AND EATING FLEDGLINGS ,

SEEN IT MANY TIMES THEY OFTEN OPEN UP A HOLE ETC AND EAT THE BLUE TITS , NUTHATCH ETC , ETC ........

I DONT KNOW ABOUT DOMINATING BIRD TABLES AND FEEDERS ALL I SEE DOMINATING SUCH AROUND HERE ARE CORVIDS LIKE THE MAGPIE ...

PERSONALLY I CANNOT SEE WHY SAD FUCKERS WOULD WANT TO SHOOT THEM AS IMO THEY DO NO HARM .........
