zini 1,939
Hi mate, If you see a rabbit in your scope that just doesn’t seem as lively as other rabbits, and its eyes are milky and almost closed that’s a massive sign that the bunny has myxomatosis. Also when you shoot it and turn it over the genitals will be infected with growths etc in advanced cases of myxomatosis. I have also heard that you can eat this type of infected rabbit but me personally I would sooner leave it for the foxes or use it as bait under a decoy for corvids and magpies etc. There will always be a healthy rabbit appear not long after to eat if your after a feed. jasper65 6
one of the first things that get hit when a Rabbit has Mixxy is its Kidneys! external lessions show up quickly after. spoke to a vet a good while back after the kids two pet Rabbits got it! he mentioned to me if the Kidneys have a good colour to them its ok, if they are dark to near black its a sign of early infection. You can eat Mixxy Rabbits anyhow! I've had mixxy for years. they won't harm us plus they have better Gamey taste! take the head and skin it and use it as stock ... Jasp Quote Link to post

bap 0
If no outward signs, check the kidneys (always check the kidneys when I open them up) Though I thought you should not eat them if they have mixi' Now I know better( though still won't be eating mixi rabbits... ) Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
if you find large lumps or little white capsules i wouldnt eat it as i think these are tapeworm cysts. Quote Link to post
rossi_j 99
Hey guys please excuse my ignorance, but I did not beleve some rabbits (with taulerema) can cause you harm, is that even if cooked properly at the proper temperature for the correct amount of time? I never realised, perhaps I have been a lucky lad not to become ill, I do wear latex gloves for gutting as I know as with any raw meat can make you ill. Also is taurelema common? .atb. .ste.
