mc145 15
My border is a great bushing, ratting and ferreting dog, got an excellent nose, doubt he'll make an earth dog but im covered in that area so I dont mind just using him for what he's good at. Well worth 70 quid, I wouldnt go out and pay upwards of 300 quid for one though Quote Link to post
neilp2009 2
ive got one he was thick as pig shit. although i thourt he was and other day he shocked me by markin a hole .and other dogs had a sniff round and never entetaind it so i carried on walkin thinkin nowt was at home. then heard a rat squeel and he had dug it out well suprised at him now hes on the ball . dont underestimate a border a lot do. hes cumin on 2 now .i think there a bit slower than other terriers just give him time mate . Reddog83 4
In my experience there deffinately not one of the quieter terrier breeds ,, and the ones I've had have taken a bit longer to cotton on but once it did it had a very good nose and a very high prey drive my first border was a dog baying type good finder bit noisey in kennel this was lost while out . second was a border x patt to noisey and never did it's job got given as a pet to some 1 who will not breed of it and the last border type was a border lakie quiet in kennle she's a Bayer but mixes [bANNED TEXT] she has to good finder and stayes till dug to and a good nose for any work all said get a good 1 and you will have a cleaver terrier u can work week in week out Quote Link to post
Gerry48 10
Thanks for the repllies, most of the comments seem to be in favour of the Borders, just a couple of negative comments, what i gather from the replies is there a bit slow to start of, but when the penny drops thy make a decent dog, so the key word is patients. irishfoxhunter 64
dont doubt the working abilities of a border as an earth dog. iv had 5 borders down the years and cant realy fault them. had some great digs . Quote Link to post
