Rabbit Hunter 6,613
My mate lost his patterdale bitch on Thursday afternoon while out exercising her. He found her about 4 or 5 fields away baying in a massive earth, but with digging it being out of the question and her having no locator collar on there was nothing he could could do, he left late that night and returned early the next morning but hasn't heard anything since. Checked with all the local farms aswell as dog wardens etc. and put posters up. The bitch is about 13/14" and stocky built, black smooth coated with a bronze cast, she has a white blaze on her chest. She will probably have fresh wounds with her being in the earth. She has a brown leather whippet collar on. Roughly 5 years old. She was lost between DARLINGTON and SEDGEFIELD in the County Durham area. Any info appreciated PM if preferred. Cheers. Quote Link to post

fireman 10,976
Why was the earth undigable? as i myself wouldn't leave a terrier to ground, wouldn't care where it was getting the terrier out is main priority.Hassle from land owner(if your somewhere your not ment to be)would be something to deal with after you got the dog out,not wanting a row just the way i'd do it seeing as the dog didn't have a locator collar on the land owner could hardly say it wasn't an accident it dropping in. Firstly because it's a registered earth, secondly because it's within a stones throw of the farm that owns the land and thirdly because it's absolutely massive, got 40+ holes that are all well used on a steep bank that is about 150 yards from bottom to top. Beleive me mate we're not shy of digging holes, we'd have dug it at the drop of a hat if we had any idea of where about's in the earth she was, the police turned up twice due to the farmer ringing them and wanting the lads off the land. Back to the post, the bitch is still missing. Quote Link to post

fireman 10,976
Not having a row mate no way,a mans dog is missing but he could hear her baying so dig to the bay(the way it was done before the locator),like i say redg'd or not, land owner having a paddy, old bill being there,i'd still be digging to my dog and they'd have to drag me off screaming.Still not getting nicked and leaving his dog to it's own fate seemed the better option to him,i'm different thats all. Do wish the man and dog all the best and hoping for a good outcome 1 Quote Link to post

fireman 10,976
If he isn't prepared to give his all to get his dog back then so be it,like i said i'm different and as for being nicked and charged the farmer was there, the old bill were there and i'd be saying to them both i'm getting my dog back as you can all see this is a rescue.I'd then risk the court case on the grounds of i'd be being crueler leaving the dog and whatever it was on and i felt justified in digging to rescue both animals from each other with the farmer and police there watching ensuring no cruilty was taking place,i might well get nicked for it but it'll be a better effort than just walking away and leaving the dog.He knows, the old bill know and the land owner knows there's a dog stuck down there and i wonder if the dogs owner has done much to contact the correct authorities on rescuing his dog legaly,it's 5 days later all red tape should have been cut through by now and a rescue mission well started.I'd have tried every way possible to get my dog back legal or not, night or day but like i say again i must be different 4 Quote Link to post
