SeanTheHawker 0
Rolf weighed in at 1lb 6, didnt hunt the ground i got yesterday due to bad wind predicted, but went further south, where it was still to be windy, but not as bad. its a lovely little farm with a few hills and high ditches, wind shouldnt be a problem. the first field, which is usually a cracker, had a cow and calf in it, so decided not to hunt it, even tho we seen a lovely rabbit sitting well out a hundred yards or so from us. went into the next field anyway, a very small small field it was, with thrushes and in the middle was a large pile of brambles .i seen a pheasent here the last time i done it, so decided to put rolf of the tree and we both walked the feild, we we got to the bunch of brambles i started to hit it, and rolf dropped on something below him, at the same time a rabbit bolted from the brambles so rolf got up again and tried for it, but he was too late. typical lol. anyway, got to the first set, put the ferret it and walked back, within about 10 seconds a rabbit bolted, will as youd guess, i was a bit unprepared and slipped rolf a little late, he got to it just as it hit cover, but was just left with a bundle of fur, got him back and ferreted the rest of the hedgerow, no more bolts. crossed over and done a lovely little fairly open set in a ditch, 30 yards out to the left of it was a very large pile of branches, and about 15 yards to the right was the same. rabbit soon bolted, but bolted from a hole nowhere near the rest, and made a quick 5 feet dash to a pile of branches. got rolf back and headed on. done a few more sets but all were empty. found another little marsh field, and a rabbit got up a good sitance away, rolf flew well at it, but no catch. cotinued beating the thickets and thrushes in that field, and must have had about 4 or 5 cracker stoops in the thicks, with him coming back out like a jack russel lol. didnt manage to catch. it was abotu 12:30 now, the wind was picking up and decided it was gonna be another single kill feed up, that is, if we get a kill. done another few sets, all empty! sets i have had rabbits out of before! then put rolf up in a tree and crossed a small stream, to get to a lowvly bit of marshy ground, must had been about 100 feet wide, and very very long. would be certain we would put a rabbit or pheasent out of it. decided to keep rolf up in the tree and walked to the edge of the field, soon a rabbit broke and ran into the next field, and headed for the stream, rolf nailed it just before the wire, good headshot and didnt even get to do the field. that was his 100th kill of the season of which 96 have been rabbits, and still no pheasent lol. and yes i have been counting lol so sue me . after a large feedup we headed back to the car. when we arrived there, we had a few unexpected guests, a few chickens. thankfully rolf wasnt interested in the slightest, the first time hes gotten close to them too. ill leave use with a few pics Edited January 14, 2007 by SeanTheHawker Quote Link to post
