staffy-1 0
Alright lads, went out with my mates biggest Wheaten/grey pup yesterday for a mooch with the ferrets, the dog which my mate says stands at 22" at the moment and is 8 months old, he is the biggest out of the three he kept back with the other dog half an inch smaller and a lighter build, and the bitch about 1 and a half to two inch smaller. He did well retrieving a bolted rabbit through some woodland which would of been a tricky catch by any dogs standards, he caught a mixy rabbit also, that was enough for him as he is only a young dog. The three pups have seen a few dogs and are mad keen to get involved but are been held back at the moment, also all three have caught rabbits on the lamp and when ferreting so there looking promising so far. I have only a picture of the biggest pup what was out with us yesterday, here is the dam, sire and one of the pups, sire dam pup p.s forgot to say, i should have some pics of my staff after a dig a few week back, and as so far i havn't had any pictures to prove she works.......some people might believe me now :11: stafffy-1 Quote Link to post

staffy-1 0
In my opinion he is an excellent guard dog, once i was messing around play fighting with my mate my mate shouted and the dog must of thought he was hurt, he latched straight on to my arm and got a 3 inch scar now but once he knows you he is soft as out. Good bushing dog and never stops working its also good as he is two big for him to get down earths but that doesn't stop him trying. Top notch drawing dog though staffy-1 Quote Link to post

Moorman 1 1,361
Staffy the pups looking great. You say that all three have taken rabbits on the lamp and ferreting. What age did he start them off?and have any of them opened up. I once had a 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 Wheaten.I started him off at about 10 1/2 months he had taken 35 rabbits 1 hare 4 deer and 12 foxes. Then for no explainable reason started to open up when run on fox and deer. This was several years ago.I let him go to a good home. I now have a 7 month old first cross Wheaten greyhound. We did take him ferreting over Christmas and let him have a run which he caught after a good course. But just before he nailed it I heard a few whines when he was right behind the rabbit. So I think I will keep him off them for a while longer. He is a nice racey type for a first cross so hopefully should have a fair turn of speed. staffy-1 0
Iv been told the fawn bitch has opened up once or twice whilst she seen it before they slipped her, but that was when she was with other dogs. None of them open up when out ferreting, the dog in the picture seems to be aking the most progress at the moment. I don't know if your pup was opening up due to excitement or what not, but id just leave him until he was mature before you thin of getting rid. staffy-1 Quote Link to post
Moorman 1 1,361
The 3/4 that I was talking about was back in 97.I won't be parting with the first cross, like I said he hasn't opened up at all,I just heard a slight whine when he was right up on it and it was jinking. The main thing is that he caught it so will give him confidence.I will be holding him off until he matures. He is showing a lot of promise marking earths and ragging other dead, shot quarry. The prey drive of these pups has to be seen to be believed. He chases birds has dived into a river after duck and killed a squirrel that a young terrier caught.
