Ideation 8,216
Right i reckon white dogs can do equally as well as dark dogs on the lamp and agree with all of the above. However (and this is just an observation so dont shoot me) i have been out with a few very dark dogs, some fairly small and have noticed that ,amy times i have been thinking that the rabbit should clock and start to leg it any second and its sat there oblivious until the dog has been right on it and has often been snatched up before it can run, and i'm not talking about squatters, but rabbits sat feeding in the beam. Any thoughts, or is it just random? just random i reckon, seen some get up and move off straight away, others squat some just kept on feeding go out often enough and we all see the different scenarios, personally iv never found it a hindrance running a white dog Thats the thing - never noticed the catch rate much different but have seen the odd dog that seemed to catch very well and often seemingly without being spotted till the last min, and they were dark. Best dogs i seen for that kind of stuff though have run out of the beam and then back in right at the end and in that situation color cant make a difference so i think i'm waffling shit Quote Link to post

lurcher123 3
I had a great rough coated dog a few years ago, "light fawn in colour, it never made any difference to his catching ability !! But you would see him a mile away, so if out poaching and it got on top this would not be the best dog to be sneaking of in to the darkness with. Quote Link to post

Attack Fell Terrier 864
Best lamping dog I've seen was almost pure white, apart from a black patch over his eye. Quote Link to post
shushycatcher 219
best bitch i ever owned was white, she died in action by hitting a chain harrow that wa half buried!! As for quarry seeing the dog coming, ive never heard so much rubbish, the quarry cant see much with the lamp on it and i would say sound is the more likely factor for the quarry shifting earlier. r i p fern. atb shushy Quote Link to post

This was a good mate of mines little bitch, and without doubt the best lamping dog ive ever seen. she would catch 100s in a season, colour makes no difference. Quote Link to post
