I have found that its the beaters who are down to earth. You get the odd shooting man on a shoot who will actually thank you for your days beating, the rest get into their volvo's and drive off.

 

I can relate to this Rupert on some shoots.

nice post artic,but why is every one keeper cosy,explaining yourself for a few game birds,they are easy to take after they have been injured by shoots and are dying any how?dont get me wrong artic not slagging your dogs off,as you said no shoots on your land,but beaters can be keepers creeps,not all as ive done it in past,but this is a lurcher working forum,yes we need to shine up lurcher's image at times,but most keepers would have lurchers band,not all but most, :blink: now watch all keepers jump out on a lurcher forum, :sick:

localy in the eighties there was a decent price on phesants used to take a dog for fetching runners some nites he would have to carry scores great sport and good cion ,usd to be big oak trees etc and they used to as the season went on be high shots for the old airsporte or mark 3 webley good crack ,still like a walk out but just for the pot or chosen clients who lke a clean bird lol

Those pheasants must of come from somewhere, but where? Nevermind, he's just jealous that the right lurcher can do a labs job 100 times better..........:tongue2:

hey lab went on keeper part on here last night spying :icon_eek: ,,,they are a bit snobby to you on there,is that why you come on lurcher part :tongue2:lol

no joke they used to have gundog scurrys at the game fairs years ago i enterd a lurcher i had luke on a timed scurry he got second in the contest a wee cocker beat him by half a second but the wee cocker couldnt fetch a rabb hare catch the roe or thrash a fox ,one several obeidence type things years ago used to get a laugh etc you cant beat a god nite at the phesants good sport

ye vice vers a used to like a saturday when they were all peeved up with booze would get a fair few back then as it ws a big estate and were only shot certain coverts , laird was an old royal didnt like his style had a few run ins with them,still alot of game on it but mostly ground game hares roe not shot in the same sense

ye mines was apup 11 month old collie type pup god crack used to do the odd main arena event with them ,got paid to do what the dogs liked fetching staying etc opend the eyes odf some of the daft gun dog faternity how well a good lurcher could fetch stay on the wistle drop to the wistle with rabb in mouth then knack a roe fox etc ,but to much traing can do the opposite to agood working dog
