Bagpuss 0
I have an unwelcome visitor to my loft, a grey squirel keeps popping in . I have put a trap in the loft baited with apple. Do I need to put it around the edges or is anywhere fine ? If and when I catch him is it ok to shoot it with my 22 air rifle in the cage or will any blood leave a smell in the cage? thanks Bagpuss Quote Link to post
john b 38
I have put a trap in the loft baited with apple. Do I need to put it around the edges or is anywhere fine ? If you know where the entrance is and you can get to it, chase him out and then position the trap so that it covers the entrance. Cover the trap over leaving the end clear like a 'tunnel' so with a bit of luck it just appear like part of the way in. Either way you're either going to catch him or keep him out. If you don't know where the entrance is, put the trap close to where you know he's active but use a more attractive and aromatic bait - peanut butter works for me If and when I catch him is it ok to shoot it with my 22 air rifle in the cage or will any blood leave a smell in the cage? That's what I do and it's not caused a problem. Had recatches with a couple of weeks Quote Link to post
Bagpuss 0
thanks John I will get some Peanut Butter... thats if it lasts long enough to even get to the loft. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
One other thing; Don't forget to block the original entry point, once ye deal with this bugger Quote Link to post
Bagpuss 0
got home this afternoon to hear a rackit coming from the loft. I opened the hatch to see a big fat squirel in the cage it seems Peanut butter works best as the apple I tried at first caught nothing. Mr Squirel was dispatched with my air rifle and the trap will be replaced just in case theres more than one. Thanks John B and Ditch fror the advise Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Snake Dr. I know you lucky guys in North America get to have a lot of fun around the 'Break Back' Rat Traps and squirrels. More power to ye Unfortunately, in UK, the sort of traps you're using to such good effect aren't legally allowed for squirrel. Stupid as it may seem, we couldn't use them on stoats or weasles either. Only cleared for rats and mice Quote Link to post
Snake Dr. 0
Thank's for the Legal Info. Ditch Shitter, It just dont seen right they can tell you what kind of Trap to use In your Attic to Trap a Critter/Pest. The way thing's are going now with the ANTI's It wont be long before It will be against the Law everywhere to do any Tapping anywhere. Take Care ! Quote Link to post
