stevethefish 80
Well we had a later start today with it being sunday and we would be ferreting around the landowners house. We were ferreting around a irrigation lake where the rabbits were doing a bit of damage on surrounding fields. The first couple of sets were not too bad just a bit heavy on the cover but LOADS of holes, we only took 60 purse nets thinking there would be enough, WRONG!!!! I had made a prediction that morning I stuck my head out and said 50 today lads, yeah right was the reply, but wait and see I said. As we dropped the first ferrets in they started bolting immediately, we didnt get time to put the rest in for a few minutes, we used 9 in total. The first set produced 6 that were clean bolters, that made a change from the norm. As we moved down the side the cover became increasingly thicker and thicker, we were crawling on our bellies under some serious thorns but this was to be easy compared to what was instore. As we only had 60 nets we just run them out on the holes we thought and blocked some others and left the rest hoping they would bolt to the next set. Well we managed to miss lots of bolt holes, could not be helped however but seeing lots of rabbits bolting giving you the old finger hurts. I reckon in total we lost 15 or so this way but these would be the breeders for next year so not a total loss. As we got round the last bend it was wall to wall thick brambles, this was daunting but it had to be done This slowed us down quite a lot as you can imagine, we had a few snagged nets that lead to escapees and a couple of digs that proved to be harder than we thought. The lads were still keen, you cant fault us at this game we dont give up or pass the hard bits and take the cream like some, like I said this slowed us down we only managed about 5 from this and a ferret that dissappeared for 30 minutes. The next couple were slightly easier and it was looking good for the 50 until Stevo said lets call it a day, but with one ferret down and a suspected kill 49 would be the score. Well I grabbed the spade and wish I didn't as it as solid rock, this took ages to break through. As we got a break there was a surprise in store, 2 backed up which took us to my target 50, Stevo called me a lucky bast**d but my smile said it all. By the time we had gutted the rabbits and put all the gear away it was just starting to go dusk, a good days sport and some graft, but well worth the effort and I guess a welcome result for the keeper and landowner. 1 Quote Link to post

blackstaff 488
I'm doing alright mate, last 2 outings with the ferts we've had near on 40. Nothing like the numbers your having at the mo but enough for us, especially being out with the dogs too Quote Link to post
