charlie red face 0
would like to see pictures of this cross and hear about its working ability.i would also like to know opinions on when breeding this cross whether it is better to use a border dam or a greyhound dam.thanks Quote Link to post
rough dog 333
In my opinion Border sire Greyhound dam just because of the size issue really. I like 1st cross but you can get some litter waste with pups following collie. Quote Link to post
wuyang 513
Mine was dam greyhound, sire border collie. Shes about 23 inch. Picked the lightest built one in the litter. Shes been an average worker, but i just mooch about these days. There isn't much about where i work my dogs so the only criticism i can really give her is that when the chips are down and theres not much about she gets bored easily and wants to play (finds a stick or something) rather than crack on looking for a scent and also she tends to keep to heel far too much for my liking(shes like a yoyo). Surprisingly quick off the mark good strike, very careful when chasing towards a hedgerow and tends to lose rabbits which other dogs may crash into the hedge for, but to me thats a positive. Pics are from when out today, didn't catch anything but chased a big and small rabbit. Edited January 9, 2011 by wuyang Quote Link to post

Chid 6,600
most people who no there stuff on here will tell u t use a greyhound bitch as the dam, divvy , tell that u no nowt most people use the greyhound as the dam as they are cheap and easy to get hold of to breed a litter or lurchers... there aint no other reason. half x collies normally average out at about 23" tts whichever way they are bred ... rough dog 333
regarding size with dam and sire choice I would`nt put a 27tts greyhound dog on a 22tts collie bitch thats what I meant by size issue Using a greyhound dam makes sense with pup delivery surely ?? 1 Quote Link to post

lurcher123 3
David Hancock's would be the man to ask as this type of breding is his game, (not saying he breeds great colly greyhounds as the ones Ive seen have not been the best, but some swear by his breeding) I'm sure its sire Colly, and greyhound dam would be the preferred method of breeding Edited January 9, 2011 by lurcher123 Quote Link to post
mc145 15
Dont the pups take a higher percentage of their genes from the dam ? (dont quote me, I might be wrong) Which if correct would suggest a greyhound dam alot more suitable to minimise waste Quote Link to post
