Bosun11 537
Havent heard of this x in a while, i saw a few in the 80s bonny looking dogs never worked one though. interesting to hear if anyone has this x and what they perform like Do old minshaws have a dash of foxhound in them? That was supposed to be the case when they fist came to this city mate, B.Mc and co. were told by Vic that there was some in. One of the fist lurcher books is Simpsons, Rebecca The Lurcher, it's a nice, quaint book and the dog in question was a foxhound cross. Never fancied one myself, not that i'd doubt it wouldn't 'go' but it'd be the 'gob' on 'em that would put me right off!!!! Quote Link to post
stroller 341
i have a contact who hunts im gonna see if i can get an invite down to the zetland kennels to learn a bit more about the foxhound and how they train them. Cooney your an arse Dan using big bob would mean i wouldnt get a fast enough cross until the 2nd breeding the first cross would be a powerful coated dog with certain uses im sure but not what i would want. The 2nd x would be a finer specimen. Bob is really just a lab with hair Hannah thanks for putting some people right my dogs stand up for themselves ask anyone who knows them Quote Link to post

Bob is really just a lab with hair All I'm sayin is that if the dog is useful to you that surely a pup out of him has the potential to be useful to you as well. I dont let percentages and what the cross is on paper dictate how I breed or hunt dogs. I use what I have and breed what I use. If more folks would take this approach at breeding hunting dogs and put the calculator and the theories to rest, they'd be much better off. Quote Link to post

All I was saying is that to call the foxhound as a breed braindead is a stupid statement and that I find it hard to take someone seriously when they state that a poodle mongeral is their best worker, thats all. Oh, and an arse is a usefull thing, probably more usefull than a poodle. Quote Link to post
stroller 341
Neil im not here to fight any corner, i can see why you got upset about the foxhound being brain dead comment i suppose i am putting them up against my dogs when i said that but hey maybe if i brought up a hound in the home it would be a biddable dog? So put me right by all means tell me about your experiences of the foxhound tell me why they arent brain dead. i have very little experience of them that was the purpose of the post was not at all to attack the breed. i can go on and on about how clever my dog is and how he constantly suprises me with how game he is and how he can work the air scent on a moor and have his ears nearly torn off in brambles after pheasent and how a 5 bar gate or a six foot drystone wall is cleared easily whilst retrieving . bob was very much a gundog experiment from a working kennels and one im over the moon with i wouldnt dis credit the poodle side of the dog either as far as im aware next to the border collie they are the worlds most intelligent dog. Im not on here to make enemies it would spoil my enjoyment of the site Quote Link to post
