malcy 2
Iv just managed to aquire an 150yds sheet of 4oz netting,so have decided to build my own long net as with some of the shop bought nets iv had were supplied with only 50% bag/kill which i have found hasnt realy got enought bag to hold most rabbits,i have worked with longnets that have 100%bag/kill but find that i sometimes lost control of the net when in bigger sizes (75yds-150yds),so thought of building them with 70-75% bag/kill,so i was just wondering which % of bag most of you like in your nets. ATB REDEYE got to agree with redeye.. 100% bagging every time. why not make a 50 yd and 25 yd net? and practice in the day time then you will be less likly to lose control.. i find my hands are too small for 50 yders of bigger and i struggle picking up onmy tod Quote Link to post
malcy 2
Yep iv got the same problems when picking up,thats when i tend to lose control of the nets at most sizes 50yrds+ as cant seam to hold all the bag/kill on the end pins as i dont seem to have enough fingers n thumbs ,the seting of the nets i have no problems with until i go over 75yrds but mostly in breezy/windy conditions,iv though over your replyes regarding the idea of making the 2 nets in 25yds + 50yrds,so im now thinking a 25yds 100% bag/kill traditional long net as i wouldnt loss control of that one ,but was toying with the idea of making the 50yds 100% bag/kill but in a quick set setup as would save all the hastle out of setting up & lossing all the neting when picking up as has no end pegs for the net to slip off Quote Link to post

Tiercel 6,986
Try tying in the netting 90 meshes every 5 yards that will help with the picking up. Also let your end pins get rusty that stops the netting from slipping off them. If I can manage a 50 yarder with this hand I bet you can. TC Quote Link to post

I find that helps with the longer nets Cheers Quote Link to post
malcy 2
Just a quick update i ended up making a 50yds traditional long net with 100% bag & a 25yds traditional long net with 100% bag,so decided when im out with the dog to run the 25yds net to check the net,run out & pick up with no problems now iv replaced the end pins to the slightly rusted ones rather than the smooth ones,so walked the length of the field on returning to the net found a nice brace(2)of rabbits perfectly balled up. Tiercel 6,986
Well done, There are not many people who can take advice. No matter how well meant, not all advice, is good advice. But you seem to have sorted the wheat from the chaff and had a result by doing so. TC Quote Link to post

andy s410c 61
Was running my 75 & 100yd (6z) quicksets with 100% did the job but this year i changed them over to fibreglass poles & put the bagging upto 150%.They've bagged the rabbits a lot better in the limestone quarries & banks i work, not much level ground to be had for me Quote Link to post
