terrierman.northeast 1
yeah mate 'morton' is right your dog needs to be worked along side other terriers to give it a bit of a nudge in the right direction, terriers come on quickly when there worked as a pack 'its a confidence thing', something you wont achieve without the help of other dogs to "show it the ropes" all the best with ypur dog mate ryan Quote Link to post
Guest busterdog
No terrier neads to see other dogs work to get the idea, i've never heard so much shit in my life, if they'r bred to work then all you have to do is socialise them and quietly on your own walk and mooch about the farms you already hunt on and given time he will learn to hunt using his god given nose and curiosity should get him to enter earths on his own with no help from anyone. And the 1st mistake you may make could be the last for the dog, find someone experienced to show you the ropes, the more you learn the more chance the dog has. Quote Link to post

Morton you talk sence but i presumed our friend would of known a little, like ferreting and the like, theres not much more you can do for a dog once it's in the ground other than the breaking off it's hard and the cleaning of wounds. Perhaps i've just been at it to long and can't see what all the fuss is about lol. Someone quoted something i said to him in one of Darcy's books (you puts the dog in you digs it out) . morton 5,368
I think we can all agree terriers will self enter, then there can be the problem of exiting,i think you will find that the dog will need a little help getting out sometimes, then there is the problem of a dog entering where it cannot get out with any sort of help,we all know places to stay clear of.That is why it is advisable to tag along with an experienced terrierman,he will show you the ropes and steer you in the right direction, its not the dog that needs the education sometimes.Make use of somebody elses expertise, thats how they probably learnt. terrierman.northeast 1
I agree with what your saying but there's nothing wrong in getting help from other terriers to bribg your dog on it helped me when I started off I think mabe because the first terrier I had was a Plummer and that's pretty much the only way I could get the dog to go to ground but no worries anyway you sound like you have more experience than me so I'll also take your advice Ryan Quote Link to post
