some times they are needed sometimes other times they are not.On the viper mark 3 front they are alot of money quite big and heavy really depends on what sort of water you are using them on a small water does not need a big boat or even a boat at all but a big water has advantages of using a boat

Ok........what do you feel coming down the rod when you drop from a boat?, what gives you an indication of what the bottom is made up of (sand, clay, gravel, deep silt, fine silt, chod, thin weed, heavy weed)

How do you propose to learn these things when you are using a boat most of the time?

Is it that it saves having to learn how to get your baiting accurate, or how to spod at distance?

And as for advantages on big waters, mind telling me what they are?...........is it that you dont have to spend time on getting your casting technique correct, or that you can fish at distances with tackle that would otherwise be insufficient to do the job?

Does it save having to fish swims that may not be as comfy for the 6 man MEGA DOME in order to reach a better casting position?

Once a fish is hooked at distance with sub-standard tackle, mind telling me how you control the thing and keep it away from snags and other dangerous obstructions?

Is a boat better for getting at fish in safe havens, normally snaggy dangerous places where there is just as much chance of a fish becoming tethered as being landed?

Learning the skills of angling is a long road with some hard lessons, you fish with your mind not drop from a boat and forget, long term you will be a better angler.

Your much better off keeping the money you would spend on a silly boat and using it to join a good water with some good anglers..............the Hutchys of this world were good anglers before boats ever came along......think about that

Never a truer word said.

I wrote a piece some years ago in an Irish Magazine and guess what it was about, tackle dealers and the trade who have distroyed our sport with an array of items that are really about catching the angler RATHER THAN THE ANGLER CATCHING THE FISH.

Think about it, did the great anglers of the past twenty years use such items, I dont think so.
