zaktarin 1
Hi I've got a couple of specs of rust just starting to appear on the metal barrel of my airgun - and yes from now on I'll be sure to clean it after every trip(!). I've read both previous posts on here and googled, and there seems to be a few common themes: Wire wool, Aluminium and Onions! So before I started to get rid of this tin worm - what has worked for you in the past and what has left the least amount of visual abrasive damage? Thanks Quote Link to post
beddylurcher 70
i used tin foil on my old one. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
If it's only a couple of small spots, then a screwed up bit of ally foil will get rid of it brilliantly, without damaging the good metal. Never seen onion used, and wire wool works but can damage the metal, whereas ally is harder than the rust but softer than the barrel steel so doesn't damage the barrel. A good squirt of WD40 left for a few hours first will help to clear worse outbreaks (and prevent recurrence) Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
thumb nail.... Quote Link to post
pest hunter 151 15
Wire wool then rub down with oily rag. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
A light rub with fine wire wool, wetted with a few drops of gun oil works perfectly on small surface rust and leaves no scratching. That works, I do know! ATB Simon Quote Link to post
zaktarin 1
Thanks guys. As no one is pro on the onion idea i'll leave that! Here's the link though - if nothing else Rachel Yatuzis ('the expert') is worth watching My Link: Onion Quote Link to post
zaktarin 1
BTW - onion doesn't work! Thumb nail is the next option. If not ill try foil screwed... Quote Link to post
zaktarin 1
Foil and wd-40. Works a treat Quote Link to post
Fat-Ferret 857
I had the same problem with a shot gun, the onion worked brilliant... Quote Link to post
zaktarin 1
I had the same problem with a shot gun, the onion worked brilliant... i tried the onion, left it on for 6 hrs hours and scrubbed it clean but the rust remained... i tried the scrunched up foil and oil and worked perfect. Perhaps i used genetically modified onions?! lol Quote Link to post
