pianoman 3,587
Hi beddyx. Right mate. First thing..stop looking at the price tags; look at what you are shooting with. It is highly unlikely the Superdomes will perform as well or better in the barrel of an Air Arms rifle as Air Arms Diablo Fields will. You haven't mentioned calibre but, the AA Field in .22 is 16 grains weight and was designed for Air Arms Lothar Walther rifle barrels. The .22 Superdome is 14.3 grains and, being 1.7 to 2 grains lighter, it will be liable to stability issues due to fit in the breech. In otherwords, it will possibly skew in flight and "shotgun" all over your target. In .177 the AA fields are 8.4 grain. I don't know what weight the Superdomes in this calibre are but, when you factor in headsizes for both .22 and .177 pellets, the differences in grain weight take on special significance. Best thing of all is buy a tin of each and see what the results from 10 shot strings of each from a zeroed scope are. Having spent top dollar on your rifle, you need to spend on THE CORRECT AMMO that brings the accuracy out to it's fullest potential. And that factor has nothing to do with money; only what is correctly suitable . Simon Quote Link to post

19powell90 89
hi mate its all about whats best in your rifle! i have an s410 and have tried many pellets with aa field, jsb exact & daystate select ft ( normal & heavy )being the best, and rws superdomes being one of the worst. all depends on your rifle. scott Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Tried AA Fields in my R10 and they printed shotgun groups. This is the only rifle i have owned that doesnt like them! Gutted really as they have done me very well in the past. Superdomes in my R10 shoot tight out to about 35yds and then the group starts to spread a little at 40, 45 and 50. Not acceptable for me. If the head of the pellet does not grip the rifleing properly then it will tend to destabalise in flight and the longer the range, the worse this will be. Super Domes are an old design now but they do seem to be one of those pellets that work very well in a wide variety of barrels. I used to use them for practice and plinking in my 410c as they had the same POI as the Loguns I used in the field but they were a fraction of the price. At 30 or so yards, they were pretty much pellet on pellet. Cheers Edited January 7, 2011 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
air gunner 0
my barrel has a shot pattern like that of a shotgun with rws but with aa it shoots nice. try them. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Thanks Steve. Cheers too Andy, you are quite right mate. That's what I was groping towards when I mentioned "Fit in the breech" and "Factor-in Headsizes". I try to cover all the basics and reasonings logically, without causing folks to lose the will to live! There is never an absolute, conclusive answer untill a pellet type/brand has been properly shot-tested and given a fair and proper hearing in an all-range shooting session. RWS Superdomes are an air rifle evergreen. Some lads will find they shoot superbly in their gunbarrels, like my HW77 does, or fine to a certain range as Mikey does, while others will find they are a dead-loss, as I found trying them with my HW80s and .22 TX200 rifle. That's how it is! ATB Simon Edited January 8, 2011 by pianoman Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I know what you mean, Simon and this is a good example of how different guns of the same type prefer one pellet over another... My shot very well with S Domes but your's doesn't and an old mate of mine's TX did but your's does not.... Funny things, airguns It boils down to the bit of advice that comes up on here so often..... Not all guns like the same ammo, you've just got to try as many types as you can and see what works best in YOUR own gun. Cheers. Quote Link to post
rossi_j 99
I have a gamo cf-x .22 (i know, I know a gamo) and have settled on superdomes they are accurate in this rifle and have tryed others that have been spat out all over the shop, its all trial and error. I would still only use the gamo out to 30 yards tops, weather thats me or the rifle I dont know, its true what they say the trigger is pants on it, never seaming to break in the same place twice. .atb. .ste.
