rex 8
Just been out for 3 hours solid field walking, fields that 18 months ago I was regulary pushing 15-25 rabbits on the lamp, too see a grand total of 11 rabbits is unbelievable! Got 3/5 for the pot which I was happy with considering the length of the slips just to get the dog running! There is another thread regarding the rapid decline of our humble coney! Unbelievable it makes you dis hearted in One sense but more determined in another. Happy hunting Rex Quote Link to post

hunter-girl 10
very few bunnies around me either, but loads of foxes think mr fox is eating them all. You know what to do then... Its exactly the same down with me as well - I was out for 4 hours the other night where it is normally boiling and seen very few bunnies and everything was sitting right on the hedge line which is a waste of a run for the dog. Ok the wind dropped right down to nothing but still its getting bad down here Quote Link to post
chester 147
before the ban the country had very healthy population of rabbits and we had never herd of vhd . simples really no rabbits to run no need for running dogs in the country side blame Blair and new labor government and the anti mob for the demise of the humble bunny. pre ban mixy guns nets dogs gas ferrets were all used to manage the numbers of rabbits but still the old rabbit held their own and managed to re produce year after year. the way things are just now i cant see the rabbits making a come back from this. hullhunter 219
if we have a good spring and summer the numbers will be back . there is still good numbers up my way. dont see many fox though Quote Link to post
rex 8
I saw 4 foxes which is about average to be honest, as well as VHD and mixxy how bout the big increase in the buzzard population? Could this also have an effect? Quote Link to post
baldockbanks courser 598
in certain spots theres been a loss of alot of rabbits and hares round here. KITES AND BUSARDS are to blame. The fox has always remained stable in numbers for years. what defense has a hare on open land got against raptors of this size. people say they are scavengers but thats not treu I.M.O why would an animal equiped with such weponry not kill for food. It can be no coincidence one species saws in number and the others decrease. Quote Link to post
chester 147
the buzzards do take their fair share of rabbits and leverets . Quote Link to post
