GetOnitSkinDown 5
dont have the dough to fork out for fluff chucking gear, so can anyone recommend a good bait for brown trout? other than worms, because i constantly catch perch. i don't want to offend any fly fishermen ATB Quote Link to post
robbo 845
we catch them on bread or sweetcorn in our local river. you could also try a big bunch of maggots but you may still get plagued by small stuff. Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
The brownies in my local river seem to like a bit of cheese.......though the larger trout are always partial to a juicy worm Though I've caught them on bread and sweetcorn Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
You could always try fishing for them in season and letting them breed matey, might give you a decent population. This time of year you want to be fishing for Grayling - some sport there! Quote Link to post

TGEvans 4
Right then, things that work for me are the usual worms and maggots, small aglia longe spinners, colour dependant on water colour. But two things that I use fairly often with great results are trotting a trout fly downstream with a normal spinning/bait rod and also dyed red sweetcorn. The fly I use is called a "Coch Y Bonddu". Its a small welsh pattern, but Black Gnats have worked on my river too. Just freelining it and letting the water do the work. The idea with sweetcorn is that they are not far off the same colour as trout eggs, and brown trout eat the eggs of other trout. An old poacher showed me that one so give it a go.Works for me. HunterBoyTellEm 0
Worms, worms and more worms. Small fish. Slugs (actually very very good). Sweetcorn. Mussles. Pellets. Quote Link to post
