a big fox to my young bitch

Recommended Posts

over christmas it was very cold here hard frost and snow, we were out checking earth's hoping to get a fox to ground for my young bitch, so one morning we head off sounder jnr two terrier's and irishlassie bull bitch , we tryed afew old spots i know that holds foxes when weather is bad but nothing at home, at one spot the farmer came out for a chat he said that another farmer had duck taking the morning before at 830 in the morning 10 minutes after he let them out, thinking back i remember seen a big fox crossing the road just up passed this lads house one evening about a week before, so headed off there to check the earths theres about 3 earths on this land, i had another terrier to double check the earths just to be sure that the young terrier would not pass one out as she only 14 months,

as we walked over to the last set of holes you could not see the tracks in the snow of a fox i was hopeing he be in there but no after checking i double check with the other terrier he telling me nothing at home, :wallbash: heading back to the car i was thinking away to myself WHERE COULD HE BE STUCK, at the car jnr jump in as i looked across at a old building on the top of the hill it hit me i remember a old man telling me he often bolted a fox from there many years ago COME JNR I SAID, where he replyed !!! as he was only thinking of home i think the xbox was sounding good to him at this stage due to the cold  as we got up the hill the bull bitch put her nose in the air and pushed the wire aside as she tipped on in a zig zag way i know she had got the smell of something, as the terrier pulled harder on the leads i said to jnr we could be on here i think ,

this building was a old waterworks,a reservoir of water to feed the town years ago it is disused now. it's all old 9" concrete pipes ,at one side it open and the line run's along the building around to the other side into a big tank, there are manhole covers every 15 yards or so on the line,

as i got to the opened side i let the young bitch run it but only went up so far and came out ,again i collored up the other terrier

again he came out :hmm: , as i looked about i could see the bull bitch marking the ground 15 yards away jnr hed a look as i put the terrier back on the lead , he shouted that there was a smell of a fox here, when i looked there was a manhole cover opened halfway as i lifted it "BANG" a good smell of a fox hit me as i look in it was about 5 feet deep so i drop in jnr and he told me that one side was blocked but the other was opened and dug out, the blocked side was the side that ran out to the opened side where the dogs checked , as i look in you could see where the fox was jumping out as you could see the marks of dirt on the side walls

i collored up the young bitch drop her down to jnr right away she pushed down on her side to enter the pipe once she was in she was gone, as i left jnr in there i walked around looking for a opening ,where the big tank was there was a big valve the runs into the pipe but again it was blocked by old rumble, walked back around to jnr and he was shouting up the manhole she barking here, you could hear her barks clear as it echoed down the pipe leave her i said and keep listen i go get the bar and shovel from the car, i was there and back in afew minutes , jnr filled me in that she had made contract with her game, i could hear her mixing it up well, i pulled jnr out a tryed to locate the bitch at the other side of the building i could her as clear as day sounding away i got the bar and probed the ground and hit the top of a manhole cover , i cleaned the old grass off and after a good 10 minutes picking at the cover with the shovel i got it up enough for jnr to get the bar in , lifted it up to see the bitch about half the lenght of herself up the pipe mixing it up well darting in and out tail wagging away as she work hard to get a hole of her fox,

the fox soon push back along the pipe with the work she was pulling on him i moved to the other side of the fox and dog and opened a other cover this time it was only two kerbs that was covering the manhole i soon opened up i got jnr to stand there with the bull bitch for the bolt, i was praying that he bolt out to jnr, so back to the bitch side as i shouted into her go on girl push on , she work it hard and the fox back up and jump out to jnr like a flash, the bull bitch was off before jnr knew what had happend and whip it and had it killed in seconds as the young bitch bounce up and down at the end of the the manhole trying her best to get out, i lifted her out and let her have a good rag of the dead fox that she well earned to have ,jnr was over the moon that he slip the dog :toast: i am over the moon with this young bitch she work very well and is on the road to be a good worker, fingers crossed
