Lungworm takes longer than 48 hours to kill though! My dog took ill and was collapsing and coughing up frothy blood and had fluid in his lungs and they treated for lungworm to be on safe side.Lungworm can be passed fairly easy i was told so if you have other dogs treat them with panacur or advocate or millbemax fairly quick anyway just to be sure. There are symptoms with lungworm coughing coughing up froth or frothy blood or mucasy with blood staining and breathing changes.Theres loads more if you google it.I reckon maybe a pm would tell you if you can afford to do it whats happened

As far as I'm aware the slug can infect your dog with lungworm through the trail of slime it leaves behind it. So slugs going through your dogs bowls at night is a real danger.

I doubt a dog eating a slug and dieing as quick as two days had lung worm, but I could be wrong.

I lost a pup 3 years ago to lung worm and at the time vets hardly knew of it in dogs so when I brought my pup in they treated her for pneumonia as that looked like the cause.

From first signs to death was about 4 days I'd say.

Lungworm is certainly on the increase in Britain.....dont forget it can be picked up simply by your dog drinking from a puddle !....Most likely the dog will have eaten a slug or snail by accident chewing branches or playing with a toy......must admit ive never heard of a dog going downhill as quick as 2 days maybe the dog had it for a while before that ?

Panacur is effective against it.

i spoke to a vet about it erlier when i went to get some advocate to treat my others i told her what happend and that and she said with the dog eating a slug it must have crawled through some pellets or ate 1 but thats the only reason anyone can think of because she ate a slug and being efective so quick with no sign's of her in pain ect..

ive just been and burried her on a friends permision R.I.P LUCKY

It wont kill in 48 hours takes a while for the cysts to grow and seriously infect a dog to make it ill enough to show symptoms. Its painful and as i said earlier its really clear your dogs ill at that point.Could be something else cos even slug pellet poisoning would have given symptoms like sever salivation and being pretty ill in generel along with coughing up blood sometimes.Lungworm looks like phnuemonia at the start.Normal wormers are useless against that and heartworm another slug or snail issue. Its as easy as your dog walking on the road and walking through a snail trail and then licking its foot i was told so i now use panacur or advocate or millbemax i wont touch drontal now.We dealt with a dog at the vets with lungworm transporting it from one vets to another and we had to take a vet and a nurse with us to drive less than 10 miles the dog was in a terrible state on oxygen and really ill.Its not a nice thing and we get a lot of snails and slugs round here hence i dont take the chance now the only thing about panacur is i get the liquid stuff from the vets and its hellish trying to make a 30 odd kg bull x take it lol

As far as I know there are no single dose wormers which will kill lung worm. Milbemax and Panacur both have to be given over a period of time as per the manufacturer's instructions. Panacur used to be given daily for a week, correct dose for dog's weight, then one week without, then another course daily for a week. Milbemax is, I believe, a 5 day course.
