jarv5116 57
'jarv5116' timestamp='1294341659' post='1862541'] Aye but not everybodies the same theres a world of differnce from sombody going out at the weekend and getting a odd rabbit .To somebody ferreting for coin or doing pest control where a locators a must and i dont think the two will meet in the middle and agree?. Mate I agree that there a usefull tool and I have a locator. but when I was kid I neva had £120 for locator so you do without. We still enjoyed ferreting and caught loads rabbits. if you cant afford a locator you can still ferret. its just not a must have imo. You dont have to convince me i ferreted for years before they where invented but like everything else we have progressed so why no move with the times ??> yeah but there still going be kids who cant afford them. but still want to go out and have fun. know what mean? Qbgrey 4,114
if your gonna do a sport i agree about not spending thousands but the welfare of the ferrets must come first, leaving a ferret in a set overnight is no prob but losing one is not good.same with lurcher owners not being able to afford proper care for the dogs should it need treatment,im not loaded but i wouldnt keep dogs if i was on my arse . Agreed and its no use pushing you can only ferret with a locator or else these newbies /kids wont be able or want to come into our sport and ferreting will be dead on its feet . Theres still a place for for folk going out and having a bit of fun getting a few rabbits and home Quote Link to post
shepp 2,285
I have read a few threads on here about it and from now on I'm taking out a hob and a jill or two ferreting. I will work the jill without collar and send the hob down with collar if she makes a kill. My hob comes to the whistle even if he makes a kill. I really get pissed off with the collar getting caught on the nets and find it has to be done up so tight to keep it on. I wonder if a harness could be used with the transmitter? Quote Link to post

Wardyuk 0
Ferrets wont go far if you have to leave them there.... i never use a locator as i cant afford one (student). I am put off going out now though, because my ferret seems to lay up everytime i go out. And , although i go back the next day or later on in the day and it will be ready to go home, there is a waste of meat down the hole. So i am waiting to lend one off a friend, i think its definately worth it if you can get one. Quote Link to post

Its not always the case the ressions biting deeper and i would always help anybody into ferreting ,Most youngsters are wary these days and i would't let my kids loose with just anybody with out checking them out . And a youngster saying up for ferreting stuff from a milk round or paper round these days would take what must seem like a lifetime to them . Quote Link to post
