I only a little from what dan tells me and i don't think its a question of a dog taking it i think its more of could it catch because i know they can run like the wind and have stamina to spare ,,,correct me if i'm wrong Dan Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
unless you are going to attemt it, why ask? its not like you are going to bump into a coyote whils out lamping.............. do you think a lurcher will pull a silverback??............does it matter?! you wont come across 1 whils out with the dog So you only have any interest in things which could directly affect your life? Thats pretty f*****g sad mate. with working dogs im only interested in the things i can actually work a dog on..........thats how i ment it, like i said why worry if a dog can do something solo when it aint in the uk......UNLESS YOU ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO ATTEMT IT?? LIKE RUNNING UR DOG SOLO ON A GAZELL IN A DESERT, NEVER COME ACROSS EITHER IN THE UK......SO WHY WORRY ABOUT IT?? Fair point mate, i wasn't getting on your case. Each to their own but i do find myself musing about dogs, different dogs and their capabilities as well as different quarry. For example not likely to see many roos around here but i'd be interested to see someone take a decent deer dog from here and try it on a roo just to see what happened. As for the coyote question from what i hear many dogs could kill one but few could catch one - 'master of the running fight' and all that. Quote Link to post

Dan Edwards 1,134
I'm not so sure many dogs could kill one even. I could be wrong but I'm used to that. jt, they aint as fast as a good deer, not here anyhow. But........they aint as dumb as one either, not even close and my deer aint stupid. Quote Link to post
thomas h 0
well i bred lurchers for taking on coyote,,bush wolf .here in canada . these are 40 to 50 lbs FOR day time hunting as the is NO HUNTING AT NIGHT only raccoons now the lurcher can catch a bush wolf in the feilds .but as to killing them. well they can. just like a hound . A hound can catch them and sometimes kills them.. there is a lot more going on then you may realize ,. quit hunting with lurchers but i flush the bush wolves out of cover with scent hounds ; and let a lurcher chase it in the feilds . i gave belgium shepard cross greyhound to a buddy and the dog was fanrtastic but the brother i kept was worse then shit .annd kept running into me at full speed and would knock me off my feet , the bull lurchers from ginger french were ok on yotes .but the whippet grey hound bull cross small lurcher would get ripped up,or not work at all even on fox . but the other whippety lurcher had an on off switch . aafter a while mostly on auto off,lol i shot a yote with a single pellet in going threw the heart and it would not die with out being dispatched . some yotes are tough and some get scared and seaze up . sometimes three large hounds cannot kill a bushwolf .and other times thomas Edited January 6, 2011 by thomas h Quote Link to post

T scent hounds sometime chase them . fishers climb a tree .and their pelt is worth big money,, hundred $ or more each.. put a terrier in a hole skunk den by mistake and your terreir might be dead from the spray in their face and foam starts coming out of its mouth and nose .but if you slowly bring your terreir to skunk ,, the terrier becomes amuned to thje spray . dangerous animals here . but I think about AFRICA THE GREY WOLF .. IT WILL EAT YOU ,AND THE DOG IS A SKULL AND BACKBONE IN HOURS A MEAN BEAR WILL RIPP YOU TO PEICES .AND THE BEAR DOGS WELL . A SMALL MUSKRAT WILL RIP YOUR TERRIERS HIDE EASILY AND A BIG VET BILL FOR STITCHES Edited January 6, 2011 by thomas h Quote Link to post
