vld 62
my bitch came into saeason last may and hasnt come back in yet is this norm? she is a yr an a half old sorry if i wreck your post mate I wouldn';t worry - I've got three bitches who come into season about once a year (all in about May time) - Two of them have had litters so there is no issues with them catching or anything. I think some bitches come into heat twice a year and some once, just depends on your dog. 1 Quote Link to post

That's a really interesting piece of information: where do you learn that? a grayhound man told me,grayhound men give they grayhounds tablets or injection to stopped them coming into season. skycat 6,173
The heart thing is an old wives' tale: not scientifically based at all. What DOES happen is that after a season the bitch starts laying down fat around her internal organs in preparation for having a litter. A wild canine needs to eat everything she can when she is pregnant for she'll be laid up with her pups for a while before being able to hunt again. The laying down of fat is what makes it dangerous to run a lurcher hard after a season. The muscles also soften and the ligaments too: its all part of the process which will enable the bitch to give birth. And before anyone says how do wild bitches manage to hunt and chase and kill without damaging themselves: well , they only run as much as they need to to catch their meal, not over and over again like we ask our dogs to do. There is also every probability that the domestic dog has altered over time for man to be able to breed them more easily, and let's face it, most domestic dogs are fed far more than they need to be fed, even a lot of working lurchers. My lurchers are fine to run during their seasons and for about 3-4 weeks afterwards: after than I don't run them hard until 12 weeks past the end of their season, or until their teats have shrunk back to normal and their muscles tone up again. 1 Quote Link to post
