Recommended Posts

my dad has a litter of 6 pups and due to the parents working ability....well the dam first cross whip, bed is an ok dog but the sire 23"irish coursing whippet is an outstanding dog,i have decided to have one myself.the problem i have is that they are all great little pups the only difference is colour and coat ,so is a rough coated dog best for cold nights on the lamp or would a broken or smoothe dog cope just aswell ,i have a rough bitch already and i quite fancy a smoothe one advice please

I bumped into a fella the other day when out with the dogs, He had a sooty sam bred whippet and a whippet/bedlington with him. The whippet wasn't shaking too much with the wet weather, but the little bed/whip with the rough coat was proper shivering. I have heard before that some bed/ whips look well protected, but actually the coat offers little protection and infact just holds the water, this was def the case with this one. Not saying there all like that, but this one certainly was. Didn't affect its working ability though the bloke said it was the best grafting dog out of the two.

My collie greyhound coat is short, but its realy thick and weather proof.

they are both good all rounders and if they are kept outside all year round there coats will come to cope with the cold weather so i wouldnt worry about it ,, i have a rough coat first cross beddy whippet and my mate has her brother fromsame litter he is smooth coat and they both cope with the weather just fine unless its well below freezing then your just asking for them to shake like a smack head going cold turkey

mines broken coated, it gives out the impression its thick and warm? but on closer inspection its not that good a coat as that found on some short close knit coats, but mine does not shiver or shake! maybe its in the dog?????
