on the look out for cheep lamb

Recommended Posts

Never had a problem with DAF and have used them for many years now. The only time their food has 'stank' is when i have left it out too long defrosting.

They are very accommodating, are going to source my hen food for me now and any other food types i want for dogs ferrets etc.

As the more you order the cheaper the price, by getting everything from one person i will save a great deal of money, just contact them prior to your order for stuff they do not have on their list and they will go all out to get it for you.....so you dont have to necessarily get £50 of raw meat to make your order up (for those with small freezer space) the price could be made up with other things also

lamb heart. cheap, still lamb and good meat, not fatty crap minced up with other crap.

costs me about £4 a week to feed lamb every meal to 5 dogs.

A dog needs the fat as he does the protein and bone. Obviously over doing the fat and not giving the dog enough exercise is a bad thing but they need some fat in their diet, especially a pup.

Buy lamb necks they're not to expensive and you wont need to spend an absolute fortune each week to feed a pup. Some frozen economy Beef mince from Iceland is a bout £3 a bag and bang on for a young pup.

A small portion of the minced meats I have had from DAF has been quite "high" but most has been ok. I did have to bin a whole box of chicken fillets as they were rotten and not that much cheaper than the stuff I get from the butchers to feed the family. They had gone a greyish white colour and lost all of their texture and firmness and stank to high heaven and my dog was ill after eating some which is the only time he has ever been sick. I may keep using DAF but might switch to the local stuff for convenience. The verdict is still out on both for me.

there not on an exclusive lamb heart diet. they get brisket bones once or twice a week, fish, along with other little bits. i just dont feed no crap like shop bought pet mince! ive seen what goes into the "good" quality stuff and to be perfectly honest it consists of what we scrape off our wellies at the end of the day, the scrapings off the floor along with the bones and what ever else is needed to get shot of that day.

i get to pick what mine eat because i work at the place that supplies the rest of you lol.

iceland mince has never seen a cow.

The problem with most of this stuff is, it is soaked in water to make the weight up,You are buying about 25%/30% tap water with the meat, which is poor quality to start with.

I've now got a steady supply of chicken carcasses ,and trimmings, free of charge ,to augument the rabbits my fellas get, throw in a few tins of pilchards and some eggs, bit of veg ,cod liver oil,bit of pasta, feeding my three for pea nuts at the mo.

Get yourself down to your local market or source your butchers. A lot will cut up, bone and trim on certain days. Providing loads of good gear for animals.

On my butchers busy day i can come away with a good half dozen bin liners of trim, thats more than i can cope with each week even freezing the stuff.

Yes it can contain loads of pork fat and skin, but as you sift through you can soon balance it all out.

Get round the butchers and ask, most will have somebody who takes it but there is always those who have to pay to get rid of it.
