proper22 5
I have a 6 1/2 month old albino jill shes been one my most promising kits from this year.. about 2 days ago now i noticed that she was spending a lot more time sleeping and never out eating or playing so i thought i'd keep an eye on her and give her time. two days on shes been in my utility room since yesterday with dry food rabbit, water and egg but shes gone down hill :/. She hasnt eaten anything at all, shes lapped a bit at the egg but not touched rabbit or dry food...... she is now incredibly weak she cant really stand up she just slumps to the lying position, and her eyes are squinting like all she want to do is lye down and die, and cant shit properly either, she has runny shit around her bum and tail so ive been having to baith her.... she also apears to have excess fluid in her legs and like stimoach area, things are ominous, tomorrow im going to book her in for the vet if she makes it anyone know what it could be or have any tips.... it would be much appreachiated Ben Quote Link to post
Hannah4181 260
I'd probably seek a vets advice before the morning if she's going down hill fast . . . . .. the morning may be too late. Costly for out of hours, just depends what your ferrets mean to you. Hope she makes it. Quote Link to post

It sounds like septicaemia. Can you ring your vet tonight and describe the symptoms to him/her ? Our vet will generally tell us whether we need to see him immediately or if he thinks it will wait till the morning. Quote Link to post

Why did you not get her to the vet asap. How do you know that what she has isnt contagious and all your other ferrets arent going to go down with it? I know it is easy to be wise after the event but it happens so many times on here, where people wait until their animal is close to death before they ask for advice. You should have contacted the vets as soon as you realised she was ill. Quote Link to post

Unfortunately fella its a hard lesson learnt. Have you or your family got or had a cold or flu? ferrets are very susceptible to the flu virus and that includes colds as well. Quote Link to post

See what the vet says first, before you go booting the cat out. My cat and ferrets live perfectly happily and healthily together. Quote Link to post
