hi all, i have a 2 year old russel which i use for bushing and ferreting, could i train him to act as a spaniel to flush game if trained or is it to late

i dont see why not my mate uses his jrt for litraly every thing. if its bushing it will flush game birds out easy. be better if its a wire coated jrt but dont really matter just have a try and see how it gets on.

As long as the dog does what you want that will be good enough , never mind all the fancy dan talk that folk will blether on to you.

I took my two year old russell beating for the first time this season and he's done pretty well! I have also taken my 7 month russell old along a few times. Ok, there has been one or two accidents....liquidised pheasants but they are doing ok.

If it comes back when called and will hunt and retrieve then certainly for your own rough shooting no probs. Also obviosuly needs to be gun broken. Might not go down too well on a driven shoot mind - just cos it can scare up birds dont make it a gun dog and we try to discourage folk bringing their terriers to our shoot, as they tend to cause problems.
