davyt63 1,845
Hi every one Chaz & Fred & I went out for a mooch this morning, chaz picked me up at 6:00am. I was late as I slept in !!!! Any way we got to the permission before sunrise at about 7:00am as we pulled up to the gate we could see bunny’s running for the hedge line, we had no lamps so went down the far end of the field to have a quick coffee and wait for a bit more light, then straight at the em.as we drove down the field not a bunny in sight, so a slow drive up in to the other 2 fields. And I spotted a few bunnies about 200yds away and asked chaz to do a tick over crawl in the truck, we got in range and I lazed it with the gun tuff range finder 55yds. Didn’t want to start the truck up again for fear of loosing them to the sound, these were good conditions know winds, as we noticed from the thick smoke coming from the didcot power station ,straight up it went. So I got my self positioned in the truck steadied my breathing, put 2.1/4 mildot on the KZ Took up the first stage, second stage Exhale THWACK!! A cracking shot it didn’t even move of the ground; just fell forward not a twitch! Was also congratulated by chaz & Fred. As we went to pick it up I had noticed one eye was nearly shut! So I think mixy is on this permission !!! As we moved of I spotted a collared dove on the wire, lazed at 43 yds same procedure,THWACK!! same out come it dropped like a stone, another good shot! Then we decided to wait it out for a while in the truck, as we was waiting a couple of cocks came by (pheasants) so it would be rude not too! The land owner had given us permission to take game birds, as long as one landed on his table, and one did with chaz & Fred both taking 2 pheasants each. And one each for are table . As things went quiet here we headed of to Stanford, and decided to have a mooch around, Fred & chaz went west I went east. As I was just turning away from the truck I see bunnies do a runner, so headed in that direction. but they were no where to be seen and just out of the corner of my eye I caught the movement of 2 squizzer’s, I watched them for about 10 minutes and decided to make my move putting the big ole oak tree in my way ,to obscure the squizzer’s view of me. As I approached the oak tree I had a quick peek around and one was still there, so slowly down on one knee (so I didn’t shoot! the tree leaves) I had now a perfect view of its head as I lent against the tree for support. No need to laze this time as I knew it was within my zero, one hand on the tree AAS410K .177 lent in the crease of my elbow. I took aim THWACK!!! Over it went with a thud; I left it for about 5 minutes as there was some ramblers walking by, so waited for them to pass then went to pick it up. When I went to have a look I could not find the squizzer, it was know where to be seen! Now for those of you who have shot squizzer’s before know they jump a bit after impact, well this one had and kicked its self down a rabbit hole which I could just see in the under growth. But I managed to retrieve it; I was surprised how far it moved. About a meter in all, after it been thwacked right in the kill zone. When I took the photo It still had a nut in its mouth, it goes to show how quick it was, as its jaws must have locked once thwacked. POI was just by the ear and exited between the other ear and eye so it was a humane shot! Any ways after looking around for its mate, and not finding it .time got on and we decided to call it a day also we had a pigeon as well Group photo And what a good day, it was for all of us!! Happy hunting Davy 2 Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Excellent shooting there gents, I'm well impressed. I can't wait to get back to the UK and get a permission again. You lads make shooting look a breeze, them long range shots are always clinically taken and before the quarry hears the Twack it's already dead. Well done.
