scottishlurcher 0
I am going to knock up a larson trap this weekend but instead of using mesh for the sides i was thinking about using 12mm doweling (I'm a carpenter to trade and ther's plent of old doweling lying around the workshop) do you boys think this would be alright? and if so how far apart would i have to make the vertical rods? Thanks in advance. Quote Link to post
akton 15
think about when your prey has been caught foxes, badgers dogs etc.. will bite through the wood to kill whatever you have caught inside the cage, so in hindsight,I dont think it would be suitable longterm. wire mesh does its job and will last alot longer Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
I wouldn't use the dowels, or wood at all aside from the roof. The problem I see with dowels is compared to mesh or wire you're going to be blocking a lot of the view of the captive bird for wild birds. Defeats the purpose a little in my mind. I cut 2"x2" weldmesh to size and cable tie it all together, just use some ply as the roof and works well, plus it's light weight, galvanised, collapsible if you really need that, and won't rot.
