Gaoler 83
Hello All, Looking at buying a Simmons Whitetail Classic Scope for my HW100 air rifle. My question what is the best model for my rifle x40 or x50? As anybody used the whitetail classic and what do you think of it? Any advice welcome Thanks John... Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Hi John. These scopes were among the best that Simmons made and they are perfect for Weihrauch spring and HW100 air rifles. I bought a "Graphite"-coated Whitetail Classic Supernightview 4.5-14X40mm AO scope over ten years ago when I bought my current HW80 .22 standard rifle. It cost £230:00 I remember and it has outperformed every other riflescope I've aquired since. It still sits atop my HW80 still and there it will forever stay because this scope didn't flinch when the rifle was tuned to near 20ft/lbs on my FAC. It holds zero and is as clear and accurate as it was brand new. Simmons stopped making the 4.5-14X40 WTC some years ago and I gave someone here the advice to look for a second-hand one for his Weihrauch air rifle. But then, by sheer good luck, I found a mint condition, barely used, second hand one for £100:00 gathering dust at one of my gunshops, just before Christmas. It's now mounted to my HW77 .22. If you can get the 40mm version John go for it. The light gathering is superb and will keep you shooting till the very last vestige of daylight has gone. There'll be no problems with the 50mm but, it's a fixed focus front objective lens that I found a bit of a fiddle to get a crisp sightpicture with. But the 40mm is adjustable focus objective, corrects paralax very well over all air rifle ranges, has a beautifully crisp sightpicture and gets the reticle closer to your rifle's bore centre and will keep your rifle better streamlined and ballanced. They are superbly well made and reliable scopes and if you have the chance of one, or more John, snap the seller's hand off, you won't be dissapointed I promise you. ATB Simon Quote Link to post

Gaoler 83
Hello Simon, Thanks for the advice. Uttings do the Whitetail classic in 6.5-20x50, this is with AO lenses. Do you think this will be O.K for my HW100? I like the idea of it being a good scope for low light hunting. Thanks John... Hi John. optelic2 48
Ive had a 3.5-10x40 WTC for many years and has been mounted on many rifles including legal limit air and rimmie's. Its now on my fac rapid and i also have a 1.5-5x20 WTC on my ratting combo. Excellent scopes with very good optics as long as you buy the old philipino build model and not the chinese built rubbish.
