Bracco Italiano

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am looking at breeds at the moment and have come across the bracco italiano, and was wondering if anyone on here has experience of working them, I have heard they can take a bit longer to mature and be good gundogs needing more time/input, they seem to have a good nature, but when on a scent trail they tend do disappear and can be hard working keeping them in close.

I have never come across this breed and cannot comment on it but reading your post made me think.

1. Why are you thinking about this breed?

2. What can this dog do that your "regular" breeds cant?

3. What ground are you working?

4. You state that they take longer to mature.... If you bare in mind that a springer or lab on average take approx 2 years to mature to full working ability how long does this breed take?

Well I have read/heard 3 years is common, I have an old (14) retriever who was never really worked, probably slightly too nervy temperament, as well as two non working breeds who just plod about. As far as ground will mostly be woodland and field, but looking at all hpr breeds for a versatile rough shooting gundog.

How much experience do you have training gundogs? If its very little i would go with a lab or springer. All the best what ever you choose.

I have Bracco Italiano and have done since they first arrived in the UK. They are not an easy dog to train. There are other HPR's which would be more suitable. If you provide more information as to why you are interested in the breed I will be able to provide some more information.

I agree with the above
