zini 1,939
No problems lads and thanks for the offer Simon, I'd love to have a go with your HW buddy . I have shot a springer a bit and am ok with them so will defo give it a go buddy, it would be a real pleasure to have a go with it mate . Hi ghillies, I know that from my time shooting that LJ would not be able to shoot that target with her experience from a standing position especially on x 6 mag like we took all our shots from. If your trying to suggest that it can't be done then I would like do it for you buddy on camera with witnesses here and show you that it can be done with a good quality rifle like a Tench tuned rifle . Phantom 631
Thanks guy's, yep having a blast if you'll excuse the pun nice!..try it standing, you'll be suprised. Hey bud, Yep, standing shots (especially at long range) are indeed much, much harder. I know that as do most; However I've no doubt that Si could pull it off especially with this particular rifle. My longest standing kill was with my AA S200 at 66 yards not meters Not an ideal shot, but it was a swift clean kill (Conditions were perfect and I thought I had the POA correct for the brain, but the pellet hit the spinal column in the neck which is why I don't often take them standing at long range). Ste; thats a Serious Understatement Laura kicked my butt today in the little comp we had I'd REALLY like to put it down to beginners luck; but the fact is; after she slaughtered many shooters scores at the meet last year no one could say it was beginners luck I can only put it down to Natural Talent and Skill wish I had that kind of skill when I'd 1st started shooting I will really have to get some serious practice in now to grips with my new Ultra when I get back to the UK as I will be using it at the next meet. ATB Si i know it can be dun... my best recent last couple f years was an 84 yard shot standng..lol. naughty i know but i was hot on that day.(lamping can iffy when your on..tisnt how far you can hit.) sometimes when i beginer doesnt know they cant they quite often duprise you. i shot for a half hour on 20 mag one night at the range, didnt give it a thought and self corected the wavering wobble thinking i must be having a bad day, wasnt till i realised that it became hard to shoot at that. so at least some of it's in the head. (tried it on 50 mag once just to see...hmmm think there is a limit lol). Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Yep I wobble like a boat in a storm past about 16 mag mate. 50 mag would kill me buddy and be very dark I think through the scope too. I'm taking Tench's advice and now learning on a low mag, x6 and sticking on it for near and far shots now. Better light, better field of view, easier to stop wobble and you only need to memorise 1 mags mildot aim points. Si Edited January 1, 2011 by zini Quote Link to post

torchey 1,328
Hi lads, Just a quick post from today’s little outing . Me, Tony and LJ went out to calibrate my Tench regged BSA .177 Ultra and its dedicated Hawke scopes mildots. The plan was to calibrate from 5 metres right out to 60 metres in 5 metre intervals to the finest degree . After a quick fine adjustment to my zero, moving the POI left the Ultra hit a drawing pin at 30 metres . Once zero was established Tony assisted me in placing targets from 5 to 60 metres while I shot and recorded the data on my calibration card, taking into consideration, rifle power, pellet BC and scope height above the bore. After the calibration was finished Tony and LJ decided to have a shot at a 4 cm target (milk bottle top) at 60 metres. As you will see after just 3 shooting lessons (2 of which were in July last year) LJ is starting to come on leaps and bounds and make some shots that an experienced shot would be proud of . This footage is not altered in any way or edited and the shot was her first attempt . Sorry for the shake, I wasnt on a tripod and the zoom was at maximun power. Here are the results. Si. Good shooting well done guys.....and girls Quote Link to post

Si nowt rong with the old 4x40's .......i think as your eyes go 6x is is pritty close to what you see with eye'ish..i got a nice on the dot and half dot set up to 55/60 yards depending on weather and temperature, starts to show up at the 50 mark quite a lot... (hense consistant power rules for me..i'd rather lose 1/2 a foot pound than gain it if i can get sub 5fps readings, 2fps varience really wakens yu' juices down range lol). davyt... i'm on 9 mag constant, lamp or day...siloutes go down to 6 or 4, ratting on 2.5-3 ish.. mind you on 9 mag twighlite realy shows the lack of depth of veiw with the paralex, (darker it is the less sharp the image basicaly, so what you thought was infocus by day is blurry by night/twighlight so your nearest and farthest 'image' changes to a tighter in view depth band around the paralex setting). 50 mags dark on a sunny day..............bad weather its a pain in the butt, i got the scope to dial in with the paralex, but usualy end up on 10 mag (minimum mag) and hold under over on the nato ret, works on ratting quite well when your used to it, lamp or day..twighlighting into dark pens is a forget it till its dark enough to lamp though, because i cant see anything but black through the scope looking in from the light.(oh, the higher the mag the further away the minimum distance to see clear is...hense 2.5 mag at sub ten yard stuff, at least there is a feild of veiw on 2.5....10 mag your looking at a smarty tube veiw lolol..way too slow). lamping wise i've used a 4x20 before now, its very similar to trying to find the target on 50 mag when its a hand held lamp, non the less as long as the gas hasnt gone you'll see it on lamp, only diference is the distance perception with it being night, so i tend to stick with the day mag because i know that one, chopping and changings ok if your wide awake and with it, after a few hours too many in the dark n too early you start to forget a bit, what dot was it? lolol...yu' distance you'll know on auto.
