Hey Logun, what do you mean by "set them out a bit"? I'm curious as to how you're placing the traps.

We almost always do set two traps per set, one facing each direction, and we do put short cables or strings on the back of the traps to anchor them, just to prevent moles from dragging them down the tunnels, and to help with finding the traps. The moles rarely drag the traps off, so you could probably get by without the anchors, but it's not a bad idea to anchor them.

We have some videos up on our website showing how to use these traps, at www.traplineproducts.com.

Traps are available from Killgerm.

steve, you dont need to set them traps back to back to get a result.they can be used on they own and get a good catch rate.

maybe our moles differ from yours in the way they use they tunnel system im not sure .and i have had loads in your type trap. know and never have had one draged down a tunnel.pity killgerm traps wasent so expencive tho.thank god i make my own.

Logun, you have me stumped here. I still can't figure out how you can get our traps to catch a mole coming from either direction. The traps are designed to slide into a tunnel and catch a mole the comes down the tunnel, and when you open up a mole run, 99% of the time, you're going to have tunnels in two directions. If you can explain how you're using one of our style traps to catch moles from either direction, I'm all ears.

I've been using the Trapline mole traps and can recommend them. Much smaller than Duffus/Talpex, which means that

you don't have to "open up" the tunnel as much to set them. And you can carry more of them.

Great little trap, get a couple and try them against the others.

do you have to use 2 of these? 1 facing each way.. they also look small would they need an anchor?

thanks smithie

I use two, one facing each way. If you didn't and a mole came up behind a single trap it wouldnt set it off.

At the rear of mine i put a fishing swivel(as seen in the photo) which i use to anchor the traps with a small cane.

Maybe by just placing 1 trap in the MAIN outgoing run you will catch the mole, sometimes its obvious where mr mole is coming out from. But mr mole could and do use 2 runs in and out from his nesting area, and don't use the same run to go out and other to come in, so back to back traps are needed.

i can see where Logun is coming from

Ok so you arrive at job park up find land owner have cuppa, walk to the area, probe for run, dig in, slip in trapline "which for those who have not used them takes 2 seconds" why not slip another in. I catch moles for cash not for fun so want to make sure I have as many chances as possible to clear them out. you wouldn't saw the claws of one side of your talpex so why only set one trapline. Which by the way are in my opinion are the best traps available.

Hi D6K, glad you like our traps. I agree with you 100% that you should set two traps, one in each direction. Sure, as Logun says sometimes you could find the end of a tunnel, or take an educated guess at which direction the mole likely will be coming from, and set just one, but why not just set the two traps rather than leave it to chance.

steve as i explaind to you via pm,two traps set at an extender run would make one of them idle.

mole only come from one way into extender runs so one trap will do the job. but if others are more confident useing two that fine.each to they own.

Hello to the mole catchers. I only recently discovered these forums & Hunting Life. Lots of interesting stuff posted on here.
Part of my duties as a maintenance man on a private estate is pest control and that's how I got into mole catching. I'd done plenty of rats, mice, wasps and ants etc before the mole hills started bubbling up, so I found an old Duffus in a drawer and went from there. I started doing private mole jobs last year - all gardens so far - and have started generating a useful 2nd income out of it. Just beer money at the moment but more than enough for a few pints. I like the work and am fascinated by all the different traps and their suitability to different situations. I use a lot of Traplines and I'd be interested to have other opinions on them - the good, the bad and the ugly if you like. Although I carry Duffus and Talpex, I've gotten into the bad habit of defaulting to tlines which has revealed that certain moles won't have anything to do with them - they seem to just chuck 'em out the way. They also often fire without catching. Not on every job, but often enough to remind me that there is always another tool for the job. I really like the Trapline, and I'm working on refining my setting technique constantly. Just wondered what other mole men's experiences with them were. And to say hello.

      Just out of interest......

Which trap do you reach for first? You can explain why if you choose.

For me, it's the Duffus every time, although I can see the attraction of the Talpex type traps.
