iceman001979 1,316
A dog should not need electrolyte replacement daily (unless working hard daily) or if poorly. I use this..... http://www.vetsearch.com.au/productsSummary.asp?id=43 Prior to a long night/days work, during if needed and after when i get home. If you know you are going out on a big night in advance, soak the dogs evening meal the night & morning before in a vast quantity of water. much is that???? and how long would it last you Quote Link to post

It last ages, you only need a small amount mixed with water, and to be honest a well conditioned dog will only need it if going to be worked really hard. Quote Link to post

You would only need to use electrolyte replacement if you are planning a hard days/nights work really...say an average night out for a few runs on rabbits for example you should not need it if your dog is fit John Quote Link to post

Moll. 1,770
I've also heard boiling water is bad for dry food...don't know if it has anything to do with the oils? I always use cold water on food, rarely feed just dry food anyway. Quote Link to post

Blue one 89
i might me wrong dos,ent boiling water on the dry take all the oils out of the dry, never heard that before rocky, would warm water be ok? cheers......john John, personally, i would not put boiling water over the dry food, it will kill all the vitamins ect. If you are going to soak it, just luke warm water and dont soak the food for more that half hour, i give it 10/15 mins, just cover the food, dont overflow it with water. I give soaked complete in the morning and dry in the evening, split the feed, it digests better. For your pup John, half a mug, soaked in the morning and half a mug dry evening, should be grand. As for electrolytes, i all ways use them, they are badly needed after hard running ect, i know at one time, no one had them, but, a lot of running dogs died as well.. Quote Link to post

The extra soaking is just for prior to working your dog hard, not for normal feeding Quote Link to post

Lab 10,979
Very interesting this topic but is any off it scientific or is it mostly personal preference? I've always giving my dogs soaked biscuits with hot water(not boiling). How would boiling water effect the 'oils' in the feed if the dish will be completely eaten anyway? Quote Link to post
