Ferret Flu.

Apart from keeping them dry, warm, well fed and watered, does any one know if there is anything that can be done for ferrets with the flu/cold? I think i gave my flu to my lot and as they all live in a court together they have all gone down with it pretty bad. Lots of sneezing, runny noses, swollen eyes and a bit lethargic. Never seen them have it this bad and i know it can kill them, i was wondering if there is anything a vet can do?

Give your vet a phone and just say im after some advice ,you will need to be quick if they recomend anything as most places will be shutting soon till the 5th

I gave mine a ring and they gave me an appointment for tomorrow morning, but i couldnt talk to a vet so i'll just have to wait it out and see if there is anything they can do then. To be fair i dont think there is anything other than taking care of them and hoping it runs its course. Hope to f**k they all make it

some vets are,nt the best help in the world but you may have some luck, all my 12 had similar last week caught of me and the missus, as i feed mine biscuits i soaked some in boiling water and mixed some clear honey in with it as it act as someting good(cant think of the word right now) and just bassiclly kept an eye on them extra bedding and let it run its course when the lot in the space of a week. also keep a check on the water bottles or some water in a bowl for ease of drinking with honey in as well. the info i got was of a friend of mine who runs a rescue allsorts of animals and ferrets she been doing it about 20 years.

Manuka honey mixed with warm water is good apparantly (if you can afford it, considering it costs an arm and a leg lol)

I hope so - its at times like these that you realise just how much you rely on the little stinkers and how much they mean to you, i'm out with them for at least an hour or two every single day during the season and out of season have them scurrying about the garden and house all the time. I spend more time with the ferrets than any other living thing (apart from the dogs), far far far more than any person. Is that sad?

no its not sad i have my ferrets in the kitchen for a hour every night. all my mates are not into dogs ferrets etc think there is wrong with me ?

Far from it ! I think you're a star for treating yours like part of the family. I know we don't work our ferrets, but i try to compensate by giving them the free run of the house every day, and when it's nicer weather they're out and about with us and the dogs. Whether you work them or not though, i do know this; Lots of attention = happy ferrets.

It really pays to keep good care of them as if you lose your adult ferrets i reckon it takes two years to replace them training up working kits no wonder we hold them in such high reguad

All eight of mine have been ill with flu/cold some worse than others the vet said just to make sure they have plenty of warm bedding plenty of food and water i have also been giving them warm soya milk everyday and touch wood they seem to be alot better so fingers crossed they'll be ok
