pest hunter 151 15
Hi lads was talking to a mate of mine who moved over to the states. He says people shoot small game with a crossbow with 80lb draw. That dose not sound much! They even shoot foxs with it! Is it just me or is this way underpowerd. If im wrong please correct me. Thanks PH1 P.S the reason i put this in this section is i am sure some of you will bow hunt deer. Edited December 30, 2010 by pest hunter 151 Quote Link to post

They shoot much bigger stuff than fox with 80lb draw, most bow hunting for larger game is done from a hide or high seat. aslong as the blot passes clean through, the mechanical broadheads that they use cause some savage damage and they dont run far. last time i looked into broadheads some were making 3.5 inch diameter holes. edited to say dont think they use the larger heads with 80lb draw bows. pest hunter 151 15
Thanks for the info redeye. But dont understand the hole idea of the lb draw what is that equal to in ftlb and surly it should be alot higher for deer. Do they make cleen kills. Im asking all these questions because i was invited bow hunting with my friend in the usa, and only want to go if i can achieve cleen kills. Thanks Ph1 Edited December 30, 2010 by pest hunter 151 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
You're forgetting that arrows deal damage in different ways than bullets/pellets. Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
Hunting anything in the UK is totally illegal with a bow. However,an 80lb bow will kill most land mammals save for the very largest pachyderms. Quote Link to post

JD is right, however an 80lb xbow is a toy compared to the ones you can get. mine is over 170lb draw weight and almost 130ftlb. i only use this for messing around target shooting never live quarry as its illegal in the uk. Fidgety 8
80lb draw is the weight needed to pull the bow back full length.....I think. Quote Link to post
