Hunt staff

I was wondering if anyone knew what hunt staff are paid? I know it isnt very much, so how do they make a living out of it with it as their only job? Thanks.

it depends from hunt to hunt. i use to take home 600 a month but on top of that i had my cottage,elec,water,council tax,phone bill etc paid plus i had use of the hunt trucks when i needed. also i never paid for any dog/ferret food as i feed them flesh also the hunt paid for my terrier vet bills. then on top of my wages i had a share of the skin money.

hunt service is not a job it is a way of live you will never get rich but i loved my job.

Thats really helpful thank you. A few question what is the skin money? Im assuming something to do with fallen stock. Also which hunt was that and what was your position in the hunt, and are you still in hunt service? It is the MFA that paid for all the other expenses like your living wasnt it?

the skin money is from the skins from the fallen stock

the the mfa (mfha) did not pay it was the hunt that pays the wages etc

i was the terrier/kennelman

first of all just to get it straight skin money is aperk dont get me wrong im not having ago and on top of that it up to the huntsman weather you get any of it. as for wages the bigger the hunt the better the pay and living. if your coming into hunt service good luck and get ready for long hard days because this is not awalk in the park.

yes you are right the skin money was a perk and the same as the phone bill i should have said that. my huntsman was first class like that with the skin money.

it is the same as any employer they all dont pay the same

The huntsman I worked under got paid less than the other staff but he had all the skin money to make up his wages, if the skin money was good certain months then he would give us some as a perk. Im guessing skins arnt making much these days so that prob wouldnt work today.

I was on really crap money but didnt have to pay for much, members of the hunt would sort anything we needed.
